WANTED--I've been looking everywhere for fizzles. Any breed/color except the Polish & Serama ones (they aren't cold hardy).

I have an adorable bantam cochin frizzle I got from MrsChickendad - She's in Michigan - maybe try her? Once it warms up maybe she can ship you some eggs?

Hello all,

I've been reading this forum for a week or two and thought I should officially join We are brand new to the chicken world and looking forward to starting. For now, I am taking my time to see what breeds we like best, the most friendly (for our kids sake) and of course winter hardy. For fun, I'd love to raise a few silkies. I fell in love with them! My oldest may take Chickens for 4-H to the fair this summer, so we have that aspect to look at as well. I plan to read through the posts in this thread, but if anyone has some recommendations of Michigan breeders, please point me in the right direction. We want to start with eggs in an incubator and go from there.

Keep warm everyone - sure are some brutal temps out there for us Michiganders lately!

that's where I got mine from last year as well, but townline is cheaper this year....and we could very likely be in the 100 range for our order. We raised 70 last year, (split 3 ways) and only have 5 or so left at this point, so I'd like to put at least 40 in the freezer this year for us.

I was looking at getting mine from townline, alot of times I try to time it right and buy them at tsc, last year I got 40 meaties, that come from townline, at tsc for 50 cents a chick, they were expecting their shipment of new chicks and needed the room, of course I knew they got their shipment in on like tuesday and so i planned my visit to tsc on monday.

There's a place about 30min from me that processed them for $3/ea last year. Final cost of each bird bought, fed, and butchered was just under $11, and I'm ok with that and not having to mess with feathers and guts. I can process if I have to, but for that many I'd rather let someone else do it.

wow 3 a bird thats crazy high i got an amish guy that does mine for 1.50 a bird and thats when i am feeling lazy and dont want to do them myself.

I'm sure where you are located (I'm in West Michigan), and I'll be getting chicks from Townline Hatchery (in Zeeland). It seems most of the feed stores (Tractor Supply, Family Farm & Home) around here get them from there too. I like Townline (after visiting too), and it seems great! I can get a minimum number of whatever kind. The people here have been really helpful!

Thank you! I have looked at Townline and they are on my list to visit. I am not sure where Zeeland is, I will have to map it. I am in South Central MI. About an hour south of Lansing. I'm hoping to find a breeder in Lansing or Ann Arbor area.
