Hello all !

Stopped in at Family Farm in Holland and Chick Days are coming I have a list of breeds that I want (and they won't have them all) and wondered if there were some reputable breeders in my area that you could suggest? Thanks!

I love the EEers but want other colors than the partridge (I think that is right) . Would love a silver or two Also blue Cochin. Want a few dark egg layers like Marans. Favorelles. Silver laced anything catches my eye. Wydonettes? Buff are pretty. Want some white egg layers, too. And would love the ones who lay purple eggs. Olive egger, too. Lavender something

I do want hens (I have four boys who are getting along right now and don't want to upset the applecart with more at this point). I don't have to day old chicks if there are young pullets. And I do lean towards standards.

Guess that didn't help too much, did it? It would probably be easier if I knew what breeders had then could sort that way.

I have 3 silver laced hens and a roo that are a year old that I wouldn't mind moving on, just not interested in them wanting to move them to make room for something else. if your interested i can take some pictures of them.

Thanks for the post. I made this for the birds today....they love it!

No prob! Mine lasted two days. Would have been nice if it lasted longer but I used fermented scratch instead of dry and it was softer inside than it was supposed to be so they were able to eat it pretty quick. Might try the dry scratch next time. Mine loved it too

They say it's snowed all but four days in January, here. I didn't realize how much I missed snowy winters until we had so many without. I'm loving it. My sheep don't seem to mind it too much either, what with their wool coats to keep them warm.

Twill and Tweed, they wanted me to follow them inside to get some treats and kept stopping and looking back to see if I was coming or not. I give them alfalfa pellets, sometimes mixed with oats, by hand every day to socialize them. Their lives revolve around treat time. When my farm sitter (the daughter of a commercial sheep farmer) came to watch after them last summer she was so tickled at how friendly they were, how they ran (nay, bounded) to greet her and begged to be pet... all for treats.

Yeah, it's called the Caledonia Farmer's Elevator and is located in "downtown" Caledonia, on the main drag. After Blue Ribbon closed in Lowell, it's the next closest thing that we have. But they're really nice there and I've had good luck with them. They carry organic chicken feed with or without soy which is nice (albeit expensive). They also carry Kalmbach feed and large pine shaving bales. You can tell if the pine shavings are in stock just by driving around the back of the building. They keep them stacked by the back door... or by calling them of course

It's a cute little town. There's a little cafe that sells ice cream right across the road from the feed store too. Always mean to stop in there but haven't.
