Also, I got an email back from Graham's In Rosebush, I can get organic feed for $22.55 a bag, thats not bulk. If I can get 40 bags at $18~20/bag would anyone want to buy some? You would have to either meet in Rosebush, St.Louis/Alma or Lansing on the day I pick up or pickup in battle creek any other day.

Hello everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post this, so if there is another place that would be good, just let me know.

Kind of long story, but without the details, I have a friend who was at someonelses farm and the lady there has a chocolate bantam hen (not sure of the breed, just told it looked almost partridge colored, but more deep chocolate) who has a sight problem.  The hen is super friendly and healthy, she just can't see really well and therefore can't be in with the ladies flock (she has mostly standard chickens which are too big for the little girl to be able push her way in with when she can't see).  They don't think she is completely blind, because she can find food, and hop on to short roosts.

Anyway, I promised my friend that I would ask and see if there was anyone that would be willing to take in a sweet special needs hen.  Anyone interested?

I am looking for a companion for an elderly indoor bantam roo who is easily pushed ovrer by others- his only compatable companion died this winter . He has been distraught and pining!

My questions are location, price, are her eyes blue? Any recent flock deaths? And on account of chocolate's rarity i do need to know how she came by her to know whether she is dun, choc, or just looks brown! I am definitely interested if she is choc/dun. My concern is always merecks, esp with fancy ones!

My birds are what i do for fun so they are free fed manna pro / kent which are pretty pricey. She would be indoors in the winter, and with a very gentle sweet boy who i haven't seen try to

breed since he ate apple seeds last summer and nearly died. Here is him and sissy when she was alive

Graham's offered $20/ton off if I got 1 ton tote, so if we did that the cost for 1000lbs of feed would be $441... $882/ton that totals to a Savings of $0.50 a bag... totally not worth gettting the ton. So far they are still the lowest price I've found at $22.55 per 50# bag. If anyone wants thier feed let me know, next time I go up that way I can grab some for others at $23/ bag (a little extra for the gas in my truck) here is thier website http://www.grahamsorganics.com/

Thanks Bob for making the offer. I will have to pass. The cost for me to go to battle creek for pick up wouldn't make it cost effective for me. I don't like to buy large volumes of food due to lack of storage and concerns for mold etc. I have a feed mill 3 miles from me that will make up what I want if I purchased in bulk too... I just don't have enough birds to justify and I'm not selling them other than for my own consumption (or to give the eggs away). During the summer they eat plenty of organics.

So my 8 hens laid 10 eggs today. Havent had that happen before. Only got 3 from them yesterday, which was very strange (I have gotten 7-8 every day since they started laying). I thought it was the storm perhaps. Anyway, when I shut them up at 10 last night there were no eggs, but I came home to 10 today. They were working overtime today!

Maybe. But I didnt see any when I opened it up at 5:30 this morning either, so I'm inclined to think they laid them all today. Either way, weird!

Ah the wonders of nature. Can a hen lay 2 eggs in the same day? I don't see why not.
Conventional thinking says that one egg per day is the norm. But when did a hen subscribe to that theory?

I have a polish that will only lay in the early evening, my daughter will go get eggs midday and get 2 from my RSL & RHR but Josephine has to be different I guess.
