Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks for all of your input everybody!

I did some research and the Sulfur, Swallowtail, and Tomato Worm were not correct gueses. But thank you anyway! I still can't seem to figure it out. The caterpillars are all about an inch long, if it helps. We don't even have tomato plants. I'm sorry for being a bother about this, but I know there are people who have had a lot more experience than I when it comes to bugs ;)

@RaZ - I haven't been on lately - what do you have court for today?
RaZ has court for violating his "double secret probation" which is a probation he knew nothing about, AFTER his probation from last time expired. Really, he has no idea what it's about since the judge and prosecutor wouldn't let him see the paperwork.

My middle-age-group of chicks just will not stay in their pen! I've tried everything i know to keep them from escaping, but they still find a way to get out every day. And they aren't quite old enough to figure out how to get back IN the coop at night. I'm getting sick and tired of having to FIND them at dusk every night and then CATCH them. They need to grow already so they don't fit through the fence or however they're getting out.

How old are they? I did a test on my littlers before letting them into the run them using a length of 2 x 4 fencing x2 feet high put in a circle, if the smallest could get out it was too soon to put them in the run. Finally gave up and put some chicken wire temporarily on the inside of the run to keep them in for a couple weeks until they were big enough not to get thru. I was sick of transferring them into a hardware cloth pen every day.

Hey, Michiganders - hope y'all are well today! We're getting some much-needed rain up here near Flint. The veggies will be happy!

Anyone attending Chickenstock Saturday - I have a hatch of Black Copper Marans (bred for dark eggs & exhibition) and some Black/Blue Marans for sale; I hatched them for a man in Ohio who just got a new job and has to be in Texas for training for the next 90 days.

Thanks for letting me hitch a ride! Looking forward to it. I will probably bring the usual...homemade mounds bars.

bring your recipe please, if you don't mind sharing

I may try this instead of straight vinegar - had some good results with plain old white vinegar but some weeds are more resistant. Now with the bees and chickens around I will not treat with any weed killers.

j

will have to try your recipe, mine is 1/2gal vin. 1/4c salt 1/2t dish soap. epsom salts may work better and your recipe calls for a greater amt. mine did not kill the weeds well
I just booked a cruise yesterday for DH, myself, and our 3 teenagers!! OMG -- Scary!! It's been over 15 years since DH & I have been on one. It's a "super out of our budget" thing with kids, etc. However it's been a long standing dream of DH & I to take our kids on one as a family. If we're ever going to do it, we'd better start planning because time is running out, the kids are growing up, & life is too short to spend it all working.

Meat birds STINK! And DRINK! And EAT! And DRINK! And did I mention STINK??!!! BLECH! ... I cannot wait for these beasts to GO OUTSIDE!! I wish they would feather in faster. They're 2 weeks old and I'm on my last gag reflex.

think I saw some new names, Welcome to Mi, BYC

@Maah - I may be picking your brain in regard to your cruise. DH has always said no way/no how, but he's softening a bit on it...I've NEVER been on one, and need to do a frugal one if we are able!

This seem so illegal ......... but then again.. they've had it out for him from day one.

Hope it all works out for him.
