Well I've got a blue copper marans pullet and roo coming in the spring from MPC, maybe I'll just start my own little breeding program over here in Muskegon and have it actually be real!

Wynette has really nice Marans, both black copper and blue; I'd recommend contacting her instead of getting hatchery birds from a feed store! My birds from her flock are wonderful! Mary

I think blue color does not breed true. I think you have to breed a Black Copper Marans with a Blue Splash Marans to get the Blue Copper. I am not a breeder but that was the impression I got. I do have a hatchery Blue Copper and she is beautiful! She lays a dark speckled egg..

I am back among the living again, man food poisoning sucks, big time. At least my bout didn't take 3 days like the DH's. Poor guy, his whole vacation time here. Got better just in time to get back on the plane.

Andalusian blue genetics:

Blue is a dilution gene that acts on black to cause grey (blue) color.

Genotype - Black - Bl, Blue - bl

Phenotype (appearance)

Bl Bl x Bl Bl - 100% black Bl Bl
Bl Bl x bl bl - 50% Black Bl Bl, 50% blue Bl bl
Bl bl x Bl bl - 25% Black Bl Bl, 50% blue Bl bl, 25% splash (bl bl)
bl bl x bl bl - 100% splash bl bl
Bl Bl x bl bl - 100% Blue Bl bl

The blue color can vary from dark to medium in tone, but should be even with faint lacing. Splash is lighter, sometimes a dirty white, with darker "splashes" of color.

Breeding splash together tends to cause the color to become washed out. Breeding back to black will intensify color.
