Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Son - flying to Germany then Italy for work.

Son: Dad I forgot my passport.
Dad: Yeah, let me drive it to GR for you.

Son owes Dad BIG time. Maybe clean the goat cabins, duck house, chicken coops, and....or he could just bring backed some non-sulfated Italian wine.

And how about some German beer as well??

Andalusian blue genetics:

Blue is a dilution gene that acts on black to cause grey (blue) color.

Genotype - Black - Bl, Blue - bl

Phenotype (appearance)

Bl Bl x Bl Bl - 100% black Bl Bl
Bl Bl x bl bl - 50% Black Bl Bl, 50% blue Bl bl
Bl bl x Bl bl - 25% Black Bl Bl, 50% blue Bl bl, 25% splash (bl bl)
bl bl x bl bl - 100% splash bl bl
Bl Bl x bl bl - 100% Blue Bl bl

The blue color can vary from dark to medium in tone, but should be even with faint lacing. Splash is lighter, sometimes a dirty white, with darker "splashes" of color.

Breeding splash together tends to cause the color to become washed out. Breeding back to black will intensify color.

Love the blue genetics! It's just fascinating!

I'm just going to start with one hatchery pair and go from there, I don't really want to be a breeder, just get a bunch of pretty chickens that lay pretty eggs! Also ordered olive eggers from MPC, curious what they will look like! Said they were a cross of a blue egg layer with a chocolate, and that there were different crosses being sold.

I know, I swear I'm getting broody or something as well. getting ideas of what I want to do next year for chicks. I'm not all that worried about getting pretty chickens, I'm just mostly worried about getting good production out of my chickens. No heat or lights on my girls and I'm still getting about 4 to 5 eggs every day here out of the six ladies who I all got from TSC. Kinda thinking of getting something like Iowa Blue chicks as early as I can find some and then maybe rehoming about 3 of my girls. My boss is in the process of building a new home and her wife kinda wants to do the farming life, seems kinda keen on getting goats. Perhaps I can talk them into taking in 3 of my girls with maybe a few chicks that I raise up a little for them to get them started on their flock.

Me Too!

I'm gonna hatch from my own,(don't think I'm going to be buying any this year), probably in February.

They're just mutts mostly: a prolific 'almost' olive layer(amberlink/EE cross), a blue laying EE and a green laying EE (from Townline last spring) and a Welsummer girl (local 'breeder') under my Welsummer rooster.

Will stick some other mutt hen eggs in there too.

John, the German deli meat is so good. Need to get some of that, also!! We ordered some for Thanksgiving and the kids took most of it home. We were left with a few scraps! Have to order more.
Laura and I keep in touch. She is such a nice person! She really reached out to me when my mom passed away. She holds a special place in my heart.

Just got a text from my son. Made it there - flights went well. Now a shopping list to text back...deli meat, beer, wine. He'll have to toss his clothes to make room.

I've got a Banty I rescued last winter. She lives with all the "normal" size girls. Anyway she always used to be very active, I mean very chatty patty and running around. She's been listless. I noticed her upper beak had grown down. Hooked sort of. I wonder if she was having a hard time eating and drinking? We clipped, and filed, the long portion and she's been living in a cold spot indoors for 3 days now. Time to move her back out. I hope that was the problem. Normal poop, eats and drinks so far...
