Public Health does rabies testing for people, so call them. The main office is in Lansing. The vaccines are very good, so all should be well. I get tested every couple of years, and always so far have had a good titer. MANY rabies vaccines in my past, and one exposure! Mary

I've been told that periodic retesting is a good idea, with a booster in case of an exposure. While in veterinary school a million years ago, we all got every new/experimental rabies vaccine that was coming out. One in particular that I remember was a grown in a monkey cell line; seemed like a good idea them, gives me the willies now! I was told this year that it 'probably' will have given me lifetime protection, but who wants to test it? Not me! My exposure way sometime in the 1980's, to a raccoon kit that tested positive. Christmas celebrations are over and while both days were wonderful I am glad that they are over. Christmas eve was all adults and today was with Hope's sons and the father and all five of her grandkids. Happy little girls certainly can make a lot of noise and I think the decibels level probably rivaled most major airports.

After a wonderful dinner it was time to open presents and that's when the sound levels really went up. Fortunately by simply removing my hearing aids they were nearly as loud. While happy kids are always a joy to be around and their excitement is wonderful to watch. It's also wonderful to watch their parents take them home.

If everyone enjoyed Christmas as much as I, then you truly did have a wonderful holiday.

Spent the afternoon stripping out the straw from my coop and dusting/airing it out. Usually i wait until the deep freeze to put straw in there; man was it stinky! Everyone seemed pretty relieved once they figured out what i was doing. The pine shavings this bag were extra course, was happy to see that since they had a lot less dust! Back to shavings now.

Found a new soap at our local hardware, excited to try it: lye, water, and lard are the only ingredients and it is supposed to relieve dry skin. I have come across simple recipes in my antique cookbooks for soaps like this. Says it removes human scent?

Any soap with a sufficient superfat content will help dry skin. That is just added fat that isn't saponified by the lye. And any soap will remove human scent by washing it away, heh, so that is just a marketing gimmick! Lard soaps, once cured, are incredibly hard and nice, they make a great bar of soap.

Speaking of lye, I am trying an experiment of making my own from the wood ashes. I found a recipe for making it at home so I'll give it a shot. My mom has an old recipe for lye soap that she made as a kid. Maybe she still has it.
