Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

@RaZ
Good idea. I think "one stop shopping" a VERY good idea!

I hope some of the folks @uchytil is wanting to "lure" back do come. I've been to the past 2 CSs...LOVED them & so love meeting the people that are behind the screen names, the great advice &'wisdom & plain old fun here in the MI Thread!!!

well I found the article and it was from 74 I believe...here are some pics

hope this clears things up a bit...sorry not recent....they were just filling in their newspaper

I don't know if this has been posted yet..... if this isn't necessary this year let me know... otherwise, I think we need to put this out since there will be new folks coming this year (I hope!)......... since we have to rent the pavilion for CS15 the cost has to come from someone's pocket. In the last couple years we've asked for donations to help reimburse the person covering this expense. So, please plan to bring some extra cash to help.

Thank you!

You want to talk contamination?  Valuable horses have died from sloppy mills...really makes you wonder about our food.  (I have horses and love this forum)

You are right. They are getting sloppy with animal feeds.... it makes me wonder in the turkey situation if cross milling wasn't to blame as well, had they not sickened would anyone have noticed it in the pig feed???? Could this have happenrd more than once and went under the radar? Ew. I have been transitioning off of meat for months due to questionable practices. I'll never be a true vegetarian but i limit what i expose myself to for sure!

Yeah, I mentioned that in the official thread. A collection jar. A few other things too. I'm sure I forgot something though. Oh yeah, make sure you come!

Wish i could go, it sounds interesting... but, my sister's wedding is that day. Maybe next year, it is quite the drive tho.

How simular is poultry to rabbits as far as a showing schedule? As in with rabbits we have multiple shows throughout the year in various locations depending on where a club puts one on. Besides showing we socialize and buy/sell stock.

Or is their not much besides fairs so that's where chickenstock comes in?

Another year gets added and I'm still trying to figure out how I got this old this fast. I was reminded recently that getting old is a lot like frying bacon naked. You know it is going to hurt you just don't know where.

Tonight we ate hamburgers made from the grass feed steer we butchered this past weekend. Driving 1700 miles in total to get meat may seem excessive but one bite was all that was needed to realize that the drive was a small price to pay. Particularly since that was my only cost. Got to appreciate a son that gives you grass fed steer for a birthday present. Every time you read about contaminated feeds or hear of a meat recall, raising your own beef makes more sense. Taking it a step further by processing it yourself insures the quality of the product and also gives you the peace of mind know that it was killed humanely and unstressed, and that it was processed under sanitary conditions.

Last 35 million cattle were slaughtered in the United States. Four companies were responsible for 80% of that number. That computes to each company processing roughly 28,000 head of cattle per day. To me it seems inconceivable that the animals are not stressed and that it is as sanitary as processing one animal.
