I have had more conversations about backyard farms this past year than anything else. Even my "city" friends think it's nuts we can't grow our own stuff. Change is coming though, I feel it.

At TSC today... I had to ask... chicks start arriving end of feb thru end of april. Is this a fairly normal time frame for most places? Never really paid attention before.

Yup that was the date I was told at Niles also. And that they're going through a different hatchery. Didnt ask which one.

I've been counting down since we got our first, because I knew we wanted more but wanted some age spacing.

Welcome back! I really didn't want to know that TSC will have chicks in late February! I like to plan for early April instead... It's cold out there. Mary

Sometimes things do work out for the better. Yesterday I had my PICC line installed. The doctors had set me up to have it done at St John's Providence in Novi but I insisted that it be done at St Joe's Livingston in Howell. The last time I had one installed I was extremely nervous about having it done until I found out that the RN installing it was someone I knew. He was a former US Army ranger medic in whom I had tremendous confidence.

As it turned out no one else has had the success that he has. He has a zero infection rate, a zero blood clot rate, and the best rating of anyone in Michigan's medical system. That alone was enough to reassure me that I had made the right decision. While we talked about this year's hunting season and made plans for him to join me on the river for spring steelhead he had the line installed without me realizing that it was in.

The last time the drug of choice required a twice daily infusion that took 2 hours each time. Plus with the IV bag being room temperature as it went in, I felt like I was freezing to death. I was really dreading 6 to 8 weeks of that procedure. This time a different drug is being used and the once daily procedure takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

Now if the surgery that is scheduled for Tuesday goes as well I will be one happy camper.
