Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

so at about 3am...dogs were going crazy...now i know why...MEET RAY RAY...THE

CHICKEN THIEF...IF HE COULDNT RESIST CHICKEN THEN HE DEF COULDNT RESIST BBQ CHICKEN....LOL
You gotta admit he's a cutie, looks like a yearling. How are the roads out your way?

I think that I'll probably miss Chick Days. I have food on hand so there is no reason to go to TSC or FFH. Also, I found out yesterday that my foot is broken. Can't use the clutch with this silly boot on. So no driving for me for a few weeks. But if someone needs a co-pilot or navigator, I'll gladly ride with you to the store.

I'll be trying my hand a tapping the maple tree this year. My friend from NH sent me some spiles.

PS I too have an Ameraucana (EE) named Ethel. The other one is Lucy.
How on earth did you break your foot? Good luck with the heart Dr.

However, when processing your own beef you can keep everything sanitary. So last night with beef I ground myself, I was able to enjoy a thick juicy rare burger.
Now you've got me craving a rare burger.

My first this years hatch will be 5 weeks old Friday. I can't believe the temperment differences between the silkies and the araucaunas. For one thing the araucanas are much larger than the silkies, they also eat and drink a lot more, a lot more adventure some a well. Only 3 of the silkies turned out paint, hopefully one will be a rooster, the others are black. Of the araucanas, only three have the tufts and no tail, the rest have some tail.

Hey all, do you need to get a permit to get a 22 in MI? I had to dispatch a possum (I usually trap but my trap was occupied by a feral cat that is at a rescue right now to get neutered) and I did not like killing it by hand. Won't go into details but it was trying to get into my chickens with the light on in the barn and me and my dog going in and out of the barn. I felt awful but that one was not going to be relocated if it was so fearless. I decided I needed something just in case I need to put an animal out of it's misery.

@ Jackie, I don't think that you need a permit, but please don't take that as law. My ex-husband had a .22. Raz, and everybody else, please stop hurting yourselves! I had a rough couple weeks at work myself. I squished my pinkey finger and then almost ran myself over with the hydraulic forklift. Man that was scary.

And @ Opa, I don't know if my opinion is valid since I became a vegetarian, but rare beef was tasty. I learned to love it at my old job at Sign of the Beefcarver. Later as a waitress the restaurants I worked at would not serve hamburgers cooked to less than medium for the reasons you mentioned, but I know that sanitation and healthy animals are high priority to you, so I can only say you're doing it right.

...but I logged on this evening to say that I named a chick! Victoria. She has one toe that curls out a little bit. My visiting friend said that it looks like her pinkey finger was out and that she should have a British name. I'll call her Tory/Victoria. I'm leaning toward the theme of country girl names. One down, five to go!

You just need to be 18 years old (for a long arm) and legally able to purchase a firearm (no domestic assault stuff, felonies, etc.)

If you want a .22 pistol, you need to be 21.

As good as a good steak smells while cooking and how fantastic it tastes I have never understood how anyone could become a vegetarian. However, what ever works is great. I've many reason why some people give up meat but the one reason one individual gave was the greatest I have ever heard. He stated that he didn't give up beef because he hated it, but he became a vegetarian because he hated vegetables and wanted to destroy as many as he could.

I do not have to worry about that :) What is a good place to get one? Do they run a check? I've never bought one 'tho in my younger days I did hunt. Been a long time. Don't know if I should go with a rifle or a handgun...it's just for in the barn so I don't have to torture those poor creatures to dispatch them. Made me sick. But I had to protect my chickens.

yeah they will run a back ground check and you will have to fill out some paper work it may take about 15-45 minutes depending on the guy doing it....how ever if you can find .22 ammo you are some kind of miracle worker....that stuff is about as hard as gold to find round here.....I buy it when ever I find a box on the shelf...Walmart sells them pretty cheep cheep....

Unless you buy from a private individual, a background check will always be run. It is incredibly quick, the shop selling the gun just makes a phone call to make sure you're not a felon or whatever. They do it while you wait.

.22 ammunition is expensive and in short supply, though. You used to be able to walk out of a store with a brick of the stuff for not much. Now finding a simple box of 100 rounds is tricky. Most places are sold out. Manufacturers are not making enough of the ammunition to fill the demand for it. And you cannot reload .22 ammo. I'm rationing the stuff I have.

Can't figure out the double quote thing, so went manual.

Is there a next step up that is easier to get ammo? I am not a felon tho' they did pick me out of all the people at my son's graduation from basic training at the naval base to check for weapons :) It was a random check and I think the guy was in training and thought I would be kind about it LOL!

I have no idea how I broke my foot. I went to the doc 2 months ago and he said it was gout. Yesterday I mentioned that the pain was still there and he took an x-ray. The break was pretty obvious and not healing/knitting properly. An hour later I was at the foot surgeon and fitted with a nerd boot. I go back in 2-3 weeks to see what happens next.

Heart surgeon is just to verify a congenital defect that was recently discovered. No worries there. And no cancer was found on the colonoscopy biopsy so I'm doing well in spite of a misspent youth and criminal adulthood.

A good rare hamburger sounds wonderful. I'll even eat it raw.

Should be getting close to time to tap the maple tree.
