Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thank you very much, Aart. Before I'd read your post, I had dragged the can into the back patio to be in the sunlight. I figured if they want to hatch/grow in the dark of my garage, sunlight probably won't do them any favors. I wanted to hose the can off but due to bathroom/plumbing renovations, I have no hose! So I dusted the can from top to bottom in DE. I also scattered DE around the garage, basically threw it at the entire area where the can stays. Naturally, the girls were all very curious as to what i was doing in the garage and tried to join me. I haven't ventured inside the can yet. I don't see the critters on the outside anymore.

As for Miss Hazel, she left the nest box on her own terms (she does everything on her own terms, actually) and buried her beak in the feeder. Phew. And thank you for the wisdom on that, too. I know if I post one more silly question like that the whole forum is going to yell, "Calm down, Nicole!" at me.

Supposedly they like warm and humid...so dry in the sun should work good.
They can't live away from the grain, won't bother the chickens....they eat grains, not blood.

I got grain mites every time I bought from a certain comp., put the bag in the sun and they piled out like crazy, I quit buying from them cause if the mites are eating the grain the chickens are left with less nutrition....(in my opinion) also you don't want to bring them into your area if you can help it
