Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

There are some new faces here today.

These are from the eggs I got at CS15 from Brett and Candy. They might have hatched last night but it is exactly 21 days. One is an Iowa Blue and the yellow is probably a leghorn. I think that is what Brett said.
Who says that 2 hens on a nest can't hatch out chicks? Both girls have been there the whole time.

ETA: There is a third chick now.

Large fowl lemon blue Cubalaya that still needs some time and work to get a real lemony looking color.

Personally I usually get all the upheaval done at one time, otherwise you have just as much drama but it is spread out over a longer time. Since you are changing the flock dynamics they will have to sort out a new pecking order, and that way they only have to do it once.

Peace and love

I agree with muttsfan here; just get it over with!
Thanks.
Will probably take partition wall down within a couple days....lots of extra room in there now.

3 two year olds removed from coop last night and rehomed today....and.....2 pullet eggs laid, I really think these bullies were deterring the pullets from nests.
Took down the extra roost today, roosting shuffle will be interesting tonite.
Cock charging at cockerel thru the mesh today.
Last old hen(.. :( she laid a huge egg today...) and cockerel removed from coop and put on the abattoir death row tonite for butchering tomorrow.

Good news!! Finally got the letter from the Department of Agriculture, a copy was also sent to the two surrounding city hall offices!!! We also moved our chicks out to our duck coop, they are getting along so well!!!

Now.. My isssue. I am thinking about winter, yes I know, its July, buy we dont have electricity in our coop and worried about how to keep my water from freezing. Any ideas?? We can possibly get a solar pannel but trying to keep cost low. Our coop is about 320 feet from our home. Any ideas would be welcome since I will most likely be having foot surgury this winter and will be off my feet for at least 8 weeks!

You could do the solar panel route, but it might not be as cheap as you would want it to be. There was somebody from Ohio a while back that did a solar powered coop. If you can, it might just be easier to run an extension cord out to the coop if its not in a spot where you would be pushing snow around at.

Found that thread I was thinking of.....
