I have Arkansas Blue x Cream Legbars that produce sex-link blue egg layers. However my chickens are now mingled for the winter, and it would be hard to get eggs for hatching this late in the season.

Alright thanks. I was asked to help setup a classroom biology progect for genetics, and I figured sex-linked chickens are neat. Can't seem find anything local, or just simple red star eggs anywhere.

You realize that red stars are probably mix of 2-4 different breeds?
Not sure what the design of your genetics projects is, but starting with hybrids is already very complicated.

I do. For the most part, I just want something that is auto-sexing, though I would prefer something that isn't so mixed like a red star. Or something BBS. (Edit, I know BBS are auto sexing, but the color combos that may with them may work as well).

isn't there a class somewhere that can teach you how to do that?

Actually BBS birds are not autosexing unless there are other factors involved, such as barring.

Autosexing is used to describe pure bred breeds in which the chicks can be sexed at hatch - eg various Legbar breeds, Welsummers, and to some extent Barred Rocks

Sex Links are crossbred birds in which the cross produces chicks sexable at hatch - eg black and red sex links. Note that two sex-links can NOT be crossed to produce sex link offspring.
