Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hubby was the first to kick on the heat. I wasn't ready yet, propane is expensive and cant turn on the pellet stove for at least another month.
Knock on wood we haven't been sick yet. Every time we get sick I wipe the entire house down with OdoBan. Even spray the bedding and pillows down every day between washing. Make sure to sanitize all door knobs, switches and remotes.
Fingers still crossed my 4 ducks hatch this Friday.

Actually BBS birds are not autosexing unless there are other factors involved, such as barring.

Autosexing is used to describe pure bred breeds in which the chicks can be sexed at hatch - eg various Legbar breeds, Welsummers, and to some extent Barred Rocks

Sex Links are crossbred birds in which the cross produces chicks sexable at hatch - eg black and red sex links. Note that two sex-links can NOT be crossed to produce sex link offspring.

Thanks for the links.

Though I should really clarify, even I am getting confused.

I know what BBS are. But it would be interesting since with black x blue you can get black, blue and splash. And the sexlinks for the chick auto-sexing.

Sorry for the confusing, thanks all.

I'm guessing you meant that you could do Punnett squares with bbs? If it weren't so late in the year I could move my barred rock hens in with my ee rooster and get sexlinks but everyone is molting. :/

In other fun, let's play "identify the cockerels" so I don't give away pullets. Here's the trick. They're almost all ee mixes so while some are really obvious, others are NOT. 2 weeks ago I thought I had all cockerels but now I see that's not the case. And only one has saddle feathers that I can see so far.

And another...]

I don't see any boys in your pictures. I look at combs, tails, and the shape of the saddle feathers. That said, I had one rooster that looked like a hen for almost 6 months and then over the course of a week his appearance totally changed.

We have gotten rid of two skunks so far this year but have at least one more around. Our Boxer got skunked this weekend. The joy of fall!
