Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It seems our fall color is white as powdered sugar has appeared here. Of course it is for the weekend we have outdoor events.

This week,
I had a perfect Polish hen disappear. She was gone for a day+ and then was back in the coop the next night. My guess was she was handing from a rooster. We have a few that are headed to freezer camp shortly.
Yesterday I moved the broody Serema and her chicks back to the coop. Huge mistake! She ended get up running off out sided leaving her chicks shivering and at the mercy of another hen trying to peck them. I ended up bringing them in and setting up a tank and light for them. Lots more work for me ahead and unfortunately my own fault.

The cool thing is I can now tell the tiny one is a frizzle. She must be from my hen a coyote took. I didn't think I had any of her eggs and was disappointed.

Congratulations Peep-chick on your BYC Friend award :)

Thank you! :)

What cute chicks! :love

I had some powdered sugar here yesterday. I sure hope this will be a warm winter as predicted. :fl

Looks like everyone is ready for the white stuff. Not! Never! We're so darn busy moving my dad and cleaning out his house, that we're behind on getting winterized.

Yeah I don't think so. Still looks the same to me. But 2 extremely harsh winters in a row have really hurt the deer population.
Also I think the DNR over manages the population. And there are so many predators it's crazy. I'm in the woods a lot and I've rarely ever seen a moose but wolves are everywhere.
They over manage the deer and under manage the wolves. They'll wait until the deer herds are destroyed before they do anything about it.

Once again MDARD is using spin media to paint a bleak picture. Avian influenza is in the air again and the blame goes to the migrating birds. I suppose school buses are the vectors for mumps and measles in children.
Although waterfowl get the bulk of the blame from the "experts", duck and goose hunters need not be overly worried.

Funny how there is no mention of the concentrated animal feed operations or the conditions that promote the rapid spread of disease within these confined space. The finger of blame is pointed at the backyard chickens again. I wonder if MDARD is aware of how well backyard flocks are cared for.
