Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Im still here and still have lots of chickens in my life, i mean coop.
:)
I pop in everyday, just dont post much. I do admit, i play on Facebook more due to several goups that im on with some being not chicken related. But most are. Im on about 2 dozen groups BUT play mainly on about 6 or so.
Otherwise been busy with hay, and now doing winterizing the farm. And with winter around the corner, farrier work is lining up like crazy and hunting season also in 2 weeks. Gonna be really busy.
But do make a lil time to play on my phone and see whats going on with everyone else.

Life is wonderful and yet we never know what awaits us when a new morning breaks. However, just the fact that we have awoke on this new day is reason enough to be thankful. I'm not sure when I will be fishing again since last Saturday started with the discovery that I had suffered a stroke. I am fortunate that it hasn't affected me mentally but the issues with the right side of my body are going to take some life style modifications.

Today I have a doctor's appointment to check out my left elbow. An elective surgery to remove a benign bursae that would have eventually reabsorbed turned into a two battle. First a MRSA infection that required another surgery followed by a PICC line for 8 weeks of exteme antibiotic therapy. Then when it refused to heal they decided in January that I needed another surgery for ostiomylitis. Again with a 12 weeks round of antibotics and another PICC line.

Then as the 2 year anniversary of the first surgery approached the elbow once again started hurting. I had scheduled doctor appointment to try to find out what was going on. However, before that could occur I suffered a TIA that has left the right side of my body extremely numb. How long this will last only God knows. Typically it resolved in one to two days, but mine hasn't started to abate. I can't help but wonder if this isn't related.

While this is real life changer, the outpouring of concern and support from family and friends only makes me more aware of how rich my life has been. As I always tell people there a no bad days only bad attitudes. While this latest chapter of life isn't what I had envisioned it is one that I will happily face.
I would not be surprised that a lot of what you are dealing with is due to the messup of the first surgery, how ever you will never get Dr. or hospital to admit it.... will be praying for you and hoping a complete recovery. X2, what 1muttsfan said. ....

Opa, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. It Is certain, though, that there is no one I know better able to handle adversity. I know your family is rallying around you, but please let me know if there is anything I can do. And tell Granny I said Hi.

went to a funeral today for our son-in-laws grandmother, 103 and 6 months. she was a tiny woman with a very big heart. always a smile and something nice to say about every one.
our son in law (who was adopted) visited her almost every day and played cards with her. I think it says a lot for their family, Our daughter chose well

Due to work, illness and either life stuff I haven't had the chance to be on here much in the last couple of months, but I've enjoyed catching up on posts this last week or so. Not really having much luck with my hens really, have only had them since May of last year and had a lot die over last winter. This year seemed better, added to my flock (only had 9 hens at the most

) but have really enjoyed them after waiting all these years to finally be able to indulge in chicken keeping. This last week has sucked though, one of my hens kind of went downhill and seemed unable to walk etc, then today we found my most prolific layer and the hen who was kind of my favorite.....she was under a shrub in our yard, dead.....part of her breast area was eaten and she had been decapitated. There were no feathers spread around and no blood trail and we are at a loss as to what killed her, we did see a largish hawk type bird in the area this evening and he spent quite a while circling around much to the distress of my remaining hens who bolted for the coop. Maybe I'm just not meant to have chickens.....

Vintyagegem, keep going there, it will be better again. Everyone loves chicken and bad stuff happens sometimes. Keep your flock locked in for a couple of weeks, because your hawk will return. Usually they feed every three or four days, so look out for a while! Opa, get well soon! And see your neurologist, and take your pills. Mary

They took out our corn field today while I was at work. Going to spend the next couple of days out there trying to pick up the ears that the combine missed. Also thinking about next weekend about setting up the coop to park it by the garage for the winter. Getting cold enough that I'm going to want to do it soon. Not to mention that I probably can't be using the nipple waterer much longer. might as well have the heated waterer in there.

What you don't get I'm sure the deer will dig up!

Last night was a blast - NOT - went into the pig pen and caught the two gilts (which only took a hour, lots of mud splashing, and fun had by none. But, they are now snuggled in the barn for winter. Pretty sure the boar is lonely. I'll have to make him some oatmeal this morning. Having a little barn bash for kids - games and petting zoo, then a potluck with costumes and creepy happenings.

Everyone have a Happy Halloween!

I'm sure. I walked the edge of the field earlier this week and there was a few spots where they had knocked down quite a few stalks. Going to have to get the quad and the little dump wagon and see how much chickie treats I can collect. already grabbed about 5 ears this morning just by walking around the edge of the field by the house here.
