Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Snowing in the U.P..!!!?/????? Runs to look out the window.. Whew.. Not near the Sault, you must be near Marquette? I know it's coming though and I think I have my Chickens ready. Been doing the deep litter method for when the -temps come.

Down here in SE Mi, it was 65. Raked up some leaves and uncovered worms. Chickens went nuts and a feeding frenzy ensued.

Later, one of our old members brought over a silkie that she found in the woods. It was a dumped bird. Poor thing was tossed out and left to fend for itself. So the orphanarium was reopened and I have a new bird in the flock. I suppose it was one of those good news, bad news events. Bad that a chicken was tossed; good that it found a safe home.

The other part of the story is that rescue person is one of our old friends who used to be a regular poster here. So I got a bit of gossip update on some of the posters who used to be here on a regular basis. Without going into detail, some of the old regulars have had some difficult times. Divorces, illnesses, injuries, job losses and other major events have occurred that caused some of our old friends to disappear from this forum. More than a few have lost their chickens. But they are still with us.

So I think that the need for ChickenStock 2016 is more important than ever before.
Let's try to make this one the best one ever. And re-connect with our friends.

Really bummed out right now. I was really hoping to be planning a quickie road trip to KC for next weekend right now, but alas, Grand Valley State fell to Shepherd University 34-32 in the NCAA division 2 playoffs today. Next week is the championship game at the MLS stadium there in KC. Supposed to be a really nice place to play. Oh well, I didn't need to spend the money to get there, and It was going to be a rough trip to get there because I would have had to leave for KC right after work on Friday night. Its a doable 11 hours from Ann Arbor, but still rough. And worst of all, Amy wouldn't have been able to come with me.

I miss SO many old friends. I've met, and hung out, and still hang out, with a few that posted and came to the Chickenstocks. Some have went away and that bums me out. Everyone has a reason - so be it. It would be nice if a mess of them came next year. This thread has really taken a few steps back simply in mass participation. Last year we still had a good visit even with the knee jerk reaction to AI and the lesser amount of people (not to mention no birds or other critters). Let's look forward and if you are an previous poster lurking try and come. John P.S. Sometimes I have room to haul an extra body, or two!

Wouldn't it be great if our old friends would come and visit? We don't care if you have chickens or not. please, if you are out there come to chickens stock so we can catch up!

I am not really an old friend or an old poster, but after December 16th we will officially be Michigan residents. We live in PA now, but will be moving on the 16th. We are very interested in the chickenstock get togethers.

Welcome to Michigan! Chickenstock Lansing has been a lot of fun, and this June was a very nice party, missing birds and all. Yesterday and today I cleaned out the coop and rebidded with new shavings. A miserable job, but so satisfying to have it done! The birds were NOT pleased to be disturbed, especially the bantams, who are locked in because of a hawk attack last Sunday. One lost cockrel, of course the best one, but the second boy is fine at least. Free range is great, but not when losses happen. Mary
