Welcome! About veterinarians willing to see chickens; The MSU path lab made up a list last year, try them. 517-353-1683. Mary
Hey Mary, REALLY loved visiting your horses yesterday :) I hope we didn't make Magic get upset, she was really enjoying getting attention before having her hooves done.

I only saw about 3 of your bantam EE's yesterday but they are cute! It looks like you have a group of Copper or Black marans or were the black birds Jerseys?

@A2Kzoo2 Hope you enjoy Leapy...here is the photo that shows him relaxing with me under the blanket :)

Yes, they are settling in quite nicely. They have their own coop and run for the moment. We'll introduce them to the main flock in a few weeks. They seem to get along just fine and are very sweet roos. Thank you for meeting up with us yesterday.

I am sure glad they found a home with you :) They both respond to "chick chick" calls when you shake a container of treats if you ever need to get them back in from the yard. Thank you so much and was great seeing you all !

Haven't been in for over a month! Kids' baseball just completely at up June and July. Our cornish are going to get butchered tomorrow; our usual processor had health issues and JUST got back up and running, and in the meanwhile I got on a list for butchering with someone else and tomorrow is the day. Will be SO happy to be done feeding them. I'm also happy to say that our mystery predator hasn't been back, and the 2 pullets i put in the "isolation" brooder in the basement are doing GREAT: one is even laying already!

My Khaki Campbells are 19 and 21 weeks old now, and we're not getting eggs yet. Hoping they start any day here. One rouen duck that is also 19 weeks. The Blue Swedish i got from TSC turned out to be a drake, so he's going to the butcher tomorrow as well. I will end up with a "breeding" trio of KCs and the Rouen for the duck coop. On that note, i have a question about "laying boxes" for ducks. I am working on getting the remaining chickens out of that coop, but those are also around 21wks old so I have put a 5gal bucket in there on its side. Will the ducks use that or do I need to build more of an open-top box for them? My chickens use these without issue, but i'm not sure if ducks will?

My one garden is a total loss this year thanks to the 8,723 rabbits running around the yard. The garden with *just* squash, canning tomatoes, and peppers is doing alright, but the rabbits are starting on the green tomatoes in that one, AND have eaten 1/3 of the pepper plants down to stalks. Looks like I will be investing in a whole bunch of metal fencing next year for the gardens. I'm planning on making a chicken wire perimeter inside the scrapped garden and putting in some fall crops. Anyone have suggestions for fall crops outside of beets/carrots/salad stuff?
