Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My ducks make a nest in straw and lay.  No box, no nothing.  Are they in with chickens?  If not I'd just use your usual bedding in an open manner and they will lay.  I get an egg a day from all ducks except they stop laying late fall until spring because I provide no lighting for them.

This is very helpful! I have 11 week old ducks and I've been wondering if I would get any eggs this year. I want sure of their laying "season," but now I have an idea :)

You haven't lived until you have rescued a swarm of honey bees from a tree branch. Wearing nothing but shorts and sandals. While 20,000 disoriented bees walk all over you.

They were safely deposited in a new hive body with no stings or loss of bees. Then a beer was immediately opened and chugged.
Yikes!!!

Swarm from one of your hives.....or somewhere else?

It was at a commercial beekeepers' facility.
We had just finished working in the yards and a wild swarm came from the woods and massed on a tree branch about 20 feet up. We grabbed the hi-lo and a saw and I went up to cut the limb. Brought them all down and dumped them in a new hive body. A neighbor was there taking pictures and caught the whole escapade.

My khakis lay every single day without fail, almost every day in the chicken nest box if provided with a golf ball guide, usually before 9 am (I guess my ducks sleep in late occasionally???). Unfortunately until the 12th of September I'm down to one duck hen, but OH I love those duckies. They are so sweet and silly. And I had the best drake ever. :.( I'm not sure I ever want to be without ducks again after them.
