@1muttsfan

Sadly, I'm afraid you're right. :( I choose kindness.j

On a happier note, I can officially say that both my Easter Eggers lay green eggs. I got two in the same day. One in the morning, and the second in the early afternoon. That also made the first day of 3 eggs in one day. :)

Wow, RaZ. Your town is filled with idiots!! Nice that you stood up to them, but now you're on their very naughty list. Great to show them how kindness works..

Feed question: is it ok to keep my flock on 20% protein chick starter and free feed oyster shells? Ive read so man different things. That the higher protein is better for their feathers and and that the calcium levels in layer feed are not good for my rooster. So whats a person to do? I lost my source for organic chick starter,but they do have organic layer crumbles. But I dont want to hurt my rooster either. So far,fingers crossed, he's been a gentleman. Not made any attempts to attack me.

You hear many different things because there are many different ways to feed, many different goals, and many different perspectives on chicken keeping.

I feed Purina 20% flock raiser crumbles.... but I'm not organic...oyster shell mixed with chicken egg shells on the side. I do it mainly because I want the higher protein percentage, as it gives me more options for supplemental foods, like scratch grains, veggie scraps, etc.

No, calcium is not great for non layers, but will they drop dead in a few months?...nah.
I have no idea how long they can have the extra calcium without adverse health issues,
it probably varies from bird to bird.
