Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Whoaa!!
That must not have been fun to clear out.
Actually, he's still there. Left him there as a warning to the others. I'll remove him when I clean out the coop to get it moving again in a month or so.

"Chickenstock" is June 10th this summer, a pot-luck party for us crazy chicken people. Fun! There's food, swaps, and sometimes that chicken chasing show as extra entertainment. Look below at the Chickenstock thread to find ours, and sign up. Mary
I still can't believe how far that gorram chicken flew.

Busy day for me on the farm today. got over and got to work on pulling out another oak stall board that was pinned behind some other boards because some idiot gelding likes to kick his stall. Big dummy. took a lot of cussing at it, and I ended up getting some new chisels as well because I broke my old one using it to split the end of the board up enough to be able to pull it out of the other wall enough that I could get in with the sawzall to cut the nails out to release the last of it.

Also got a contractor out today to look at the barn roof. he seemed to be pretty optimistic about getting mom's insurance company to cover the cost of replacing most of the trim and the OSB that's rotting away due to ice damage. He said that whoever started the shingles the last time they didn't have them sticking out over the edge far enough to let the water go off the roof. Ideally, what we would really like to do is to is to go with a metal roof in the future.

Hello all
I feel bad cutting in your conversation but I'm looking for a breeder closer to me (so I can avoid shipping) and I feel I have more chances finding him/her on this thread

I'm looking to start a flock of 5-6 chicken (either by incubating eggs or purchasing very young chicks) to have as pets/ fresh eggs...I would like my flock to be made up of chicken of very distinctive colors or breed individual chicken....look is important but temperament is the key factor, all must be very Docile in nature
The breed I'm interested in is the English Orpingtons, Black, Golden Laced, Chocolate or Buff (either or) and maybe more as I learn about different colors, but they must be the very fluffy kind( with long feathers that kinda hide the legs)

I fell in love with EO for their look but more so for their reputation but I'm also considering other breeds like the Polish if is Docile and not high maintenance (I have kids and a full time job) but first I need to learn more about their temperament (and the existence of others lol) so I appreciate all the input I can get
Thank you!
I have a polish rooster with barred rock and buff orpington hens. I'm north of Grand Rapids. I have chicks ranging from January hatches up to the newest from last week. They are unique looking crosses, for sure.

Go with a metal roof if you can afford it. It will more than pay for itself. Plus the snow just slides off instead of building up and causing ice dams. The only downside I have found with ours is we cant use gutters unless I take them down in the fall. the ice and snow will rip them off as it slides off.
