I know I can't be the only one here that has had a kiddie pool of chicks in their house right?

No kiddie pool, but I have a giant tote with Black Ameraucanas and an old cooler with turkey poults right now. I had 6 call ducks in the cooler for several days.

No more chicks in my house beyond 2-3 days. Ever.

Maybe a week here, then out to the coop they go!

I got 6 new bantam babies yesterday pretty sure they're all silkie. All have dark skin and extra toes they came from TSC. And yes they are in my house for now in a tote. Hubby actually suggested I get them.

If your coop is big enough, and you have power out there, you could wire off a section to brood them in.
Makes integration much easier too.

Today the TSC in Williamston had a bin full of Silkies, all white. Cute, but no way! They also had Khaki Campbell ducklings, but I escaped without any. Mary

Well... it's been a long time since I have signed in here. To be honest, it has been more than a few years since we had our birds. We kept chickens for about 5 years and really enjoyed it. Looking to make this year the year we get back in. I am in Detroit proper and looking for someone who has either chicks or pullets for sale in SE Michigan. If anyone can help or even point me in the right direction it would be so very much appreciated. The BYC forums have always been chocked full of good folks and good resources, glad to be back aboard.

The main reasons I still have them in the house are my kids love to leave the garage door open and the neighbor cat just loves to get in there and go after anything it can. Also our run isnt quite finished yet had a little setback with the wife having back surgery. And last this is our first year with chicks so im a bit like the over protective parent and just dont want to let them go yet.

I'll probably move them out side in the next week or two right now I'm using a heating pad cave and I'm pretty sure that will not keep them warm enough up here at night. I could have waiting to get chick's until it warmed up more but hubby actually suggested I get them and said it was OK to have them in the house for a couple weeks. Now the meat birds I plan on getting in a couple months will spend their entire short life outside.
