Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks! If you don't mind, what left you less than impressed with Wyandottes?

I liked my Silver Laced Wyandotte a lot. She was very pretty and a total sweetie, but then Mr. Fox got her one day while she was out free-ranging. I now have an 8 week old Columbian Wyandotte. She is much more skiddish and timid than my SLW but I'm hoping she will come around with time.

I've been missing since fair time when things just got too busy! Raz I'm glad you got a new place! We had a trip down Ann Arbor way recent.y and I am so glad I'm no where near a city or suburb.

We've had tons of predators this year. My rule has always been if they come around at night I don't care because the chickens are locked up. Well.. Something tore the latch off my pop door and had a chicken for dinner so it became war on predators. We've gotten 4 skunks, 3 raccoon and an opossum so far. Not much can be done for the red-tails except bottle rockets.

Boynedoc, did you happen to know or mention to Tammy F. You were looking for G.L. Wyandottes? I got a message some one down your way was looking for some. My brother found some silver up by Moran earlier this year.

I know everyone is complaining about the heat but I'm sad to see it go. Doing chores in shorts in the morning has been so nice, I didn't even get to do that in August.

I had a couple GLW mixes...meanest birds in the coop, one was vicious.
Not sure that was because of breed or other factors.
Have a couple SLW's POL pullets now, very friendly to me,
but are showing signs of becoming assertive within the flock,
one was even driving the cockerel around.
Am hoping it's just POL hormones surges and not a long term thing.

@Boynedoc What are your goals for having GLW....breeding, just pretty,....?

@aart My goals are brown eggs, cold resistance (as I am above the 45 parallel after all), I love the coloring! Eventually, could start breeding.

I am very curious how your Wyandottes/crosses seem to be assertive/aggressive? Every bit of reading/research I have done suggest this breed is docile/friendly.....

What is POL? Sorry in advance regarding my newbie-ness... :)

@taprock I did talk with Tammy regarding GLW's - nobody she or her father knows have any. So I am getting some from WI, fingers crossed - hopefully next week! Regarding predators, hopefully our pack of 5 labs will keep the predators at bay....haven't seen hardly any activity from skunks, raccoons, or possums since they have established their "presence"...

@trailrider330 Thanks for the response. Hopefully the Columbian comes around.
