Don't forget to get a kiddie pool for them when they get bigger. The water will have to be changed daily. They make a heck of a mess. I've had them before and they can be a lot of fun but they are high maintenance. Good luck.

Oh yeah, we've been talking about that for a while now. We have a little more than half an acre, maybe 3/4 roughly. We're thinking a pond with a pump (?) Not sure. But a kiddie pool comes first. We're surrounded by mass farming so we'd like to sort of 'wild' the place just a bit. Get a bit more green and such. We'll see. Watching the ducks and chicks together has been interesting. We added a few twigs to see how the chicks would respond as the banties are feathering nicely and really stretching their wings. Lo and behold, the Jersey's are perching, and the ducks are loving the area to hide in and even nibble on. A good friend of mine has a rather large permaculture farm and has given us some wild greens for the roo (and us). We gave a few to the birds and the ducks are nibbling just a tad here and there. Not enough to disrupt the diet, but watching how they are responding to the surroundings is helping me sort out how/where both the pool and pond should go.

Kittens and puppies do best if handled from birth, for at least fifteen minutes each day. It's good for them!

Well I have been MIA a bit. The wife came down with the flu AND a sinus,ear,throat infection. Then I sprained my wrist. Then the sink fell out of the kitchen counter. LOL I haven’t been bored.

Now 1 of my GLW pullets has gone bat-crazy broody! So she is sitting on, 4 eggs. 3 days now, and she seems fully committed - even though I explained the consequences of teenage motherhood!

I have two broody hens right now, and no eggs worth setting on. The breeding groups will be separated three weeks on April 7, and then eggs can be saved. Who knows if any hens will care by then?

I cant say the eggs are worth sitting on, other than these are my first! EE over GLW barnyard mix. I almost set a couple my EEs in as well, but crazily looking for a mini-Bob for a friend who wants one at her farm. The last 2 eggs laid by my EE hen were pullet shaped...

We're Lenawee county residents, not totally new to the chicken game but not super experienced.

Just picked up 9 chicks a couple days ago, and 4 ducks yesterday. All from TSC.

3 Silver lace, 3 Jersey, 3 banties, and 4 Rouens.

Am interested in getting maybe two more ducks but a different breed? Not sure what though.

I didn't realize that farm animals could potentially become an odd addiction.
