Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

So this is another couple of examples of the problems related to killing off predators. If you get rid of the foxes, coyotes and raptors, you're going to have more raccoons and muskrats and other animals that when over populated turn into varmints - and add voles, mice, and rats to that list.

Deluge last night flooded garage and rearranged the chicken run bedding.
Wondered if I should pitch some chips into the 'under run'....
....flood floated a good layer in there for me.

No damage, just a lot of shop vaccing to do....then some swale and drain maintenance, that may have prevented this flooding of done earlier. <shrugs>

We have all the normal mid-Michigan predators, and wish they were doing their thing at the pond! One neighbor shoots an occasional coyote if it shows up in their yard, but the coyotes are still singing, so still have a population.
Just too many muskrats!!!

That's going to be hard on them if it is a bad winter. I remember one year when they were out getting hit by cars near winter's end, they were starving and had to come out to find food.

I think both Ivermectin and Milbemycin will kill roundworms, but the once a month preventives are not 100% effective against internal parasites. Unfortunately sounds like even heartworms down south are becoming resistant.

We must now be the 'keystone predator'.
There used to be a ton of rabbits around here, haven't seen but one or three in the past 3 years....weird.

97% of the water has been removed from garage, the rest will have to dry on it's own, probably not quickly as the humidity has jumped up again.

Between the fox, coyote, and my devil dog I haven't seen any rabbits around here. Chipmunks are a whole other story! Damn things are everywhere.

Stopped by the local CO-OP for layer feed. They will have fall cover crop seed next month so I plan to sow some winter wheat and maybe another crop to hopefully mitigate the spring mud season. No way will I ever have a lawn again.

I had an enormous oregano bush in a small side garden in my yard, after a few years I realized what I thought was a creeping weed is actually oregano. It makes a nice lawn, stays green in dry weather and mows nicely
