So far one chick dead, and one 'sleepy', who's now getting electrolytes by mouth.

I haven't seen a hummingbird yet, the report I got was from about 15 miles Northwest of here. I hope the little guys still alive.
I did put my feeder out, but I'm going to have to bring it in at night cuz it's supposed to freeze for the next four or five nights

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! What a road our kids took us on! The highs and the lows we went through. But, it was all worth it! The love we all have for each other. Family. It's what it's all about.

I've been very sick the last couple of weeks. Tested negative for covid, thankfully. Saw our first hummingbird on Wed. at the feeder. Then it turned cold and haven't seen one since. We've been seeing coyotes running on the edge of the woods in the back yard (about 40 yds. away) during the day for the past couple of weeks. This is has been three times in two weeks. In the five yrs. we have lived here this has been the second time that we've seen them during day time hours. The other time was in the middle of winter as two ran across the frozen pond. I think they are out looking for turkeys or eggs. Can't wait until it warms up, come on Tuesday. The whole staying at home is nothing new for me but the wife is going stir crazy and she goes to work every day. Hope everyone is enjoying this now rainy afternoon at least in our area.

Happy mother's day to all. Folly- hope your chicks are doing ok. Our local TSC has a sign outside that says you must be wear a mask to enter. So far I haven't seen anyone inside without one. It bothers me to see people not wearing masks or not wearing them correctly. I work in a hospital. I register patients, clerk for the er staff, and register for our drive in covid testing. It amazes me that there are people that think this is a hoax or it can't happen to them. I don't have time to check this site often but will miss seeing everyone in June. I hope everyone is safe and well.

justincase, I hope you are feeling better. Did you get a second test done? I would worry about a false negative reading.
I worry about coyotes. With three small dogs, it scares me that they could jump the fence and get them. My neighbor behind us shoots them when he sees them. Says he sees a lot of them on his camera.
My, how the weather changes! This cold is not welcomed!! Warm weather is on it's way, though.

Pretty soon we, or at least I, will be griping about it being too hot.

Kinda glad it's cooler to day, have to crawl around on the garage floor to work on tractor.
Cool enough to wear insulated bibs will cushion that a tad.
I've got 3 days to get it running and mow, before 4 days of rain.

My sour crop girl is 'cured' and back with the flock with no problems after 7 days in the hospital crate. Fingers crossed she stays healthy.
The broody chicks seem to be eating and drinking well,
mama hides them every time I come into the coop shed.

Sure has been a crazy May so far. It was even snowing here yesterday. Other than a couple of days in Feb, I haven't had mud season. My whole yard between the house and coop and garage is like cement. I'd like to plant some forage grasses in a few areas for the wild life.

I have seen the fox or coyote in quite a while. I think the yote got the red fox family or chased them away. I'm pretty sure that a hunter got the big make coyote last fall. He said he was on the state land to the south of me. I hope that kind of predators stay away.

There have been a couple of turkey hens hanging with my chickens lately.And birds galore. No hummingbirds yet. Or orioles. They'll be here soon enough.

It's supposed to be a low of 23'F tonight. I guess I'm not done with the fireplace yet. I think November and May got switched around.

We had two SS chicks die out of the order, and sixteen looking great! Not bad, considering THREE DAYS in transit!
It's cold today, and then will be warmer. We have this week to clean out the garage, before B-Dry shows up Monday. Fun! Need to see if the local dumping station will be open, and get organized, finally!

Sorey to hear about your chick losses, but glad so many made it after their ordeal. Garage organization sounds very productive! We live along a dirt road, so keeping our garage dust-free is a constant battle. I did manage to organize some of our tools recently and got started on a "shadow board" concept.
