Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

When I first moved here there was a store bought shed that I used to house the chickens. Just a little 8x10 job from some big box store. It served well for over a year.
Then I built the big coop, (10x12) using reclaimed materials and scrap lumber.

If you are starting from scratch then go big. Chicken math will kick in at some point and you will want/need more room. Happened to me this weekend when I picked up some birds from Folly's Place. I doubled my beak count and they all have enough room to be comfortable in the coop. Also consider a quarantine area if you want to add more birds.
Thanks Miss Mary for the terrific advice. Looks like everyone keeps and eye on each other here. Will definitely put that on the list for consideration. And YES chicken math is already kicking in...I’m thinking about how many I can reasonably have. I just wish I wasn’t such a newbie. Good grief I’m just waiting to capture my first raccoon so Mary can tell me how to “dispatch” the little devil! Night all and prayers to you Raz!

I know at the hospital I work at processes often change daily, sometimes almost hourly. Can make you crazy. In the end it is always trying to keep patients (and employees) as safe as possible. Can create confusion as we constantly shift gears. I used to just take my purse with me to work. Now I leave it home and carry a tote bag with my mask, goggles and face shield in. Also to hold my street clothes after I change into scrubs, and change again before going home. I am so tired of changing clothes----- but it's all to keep everyone, patients, employees, and our own families ok. At least my chickens don't have to worry about covid!!! They provided me with some well needed relaxation.

That doesn't seem silly at all. I was a country boy trapped in the suburbs for way too long. Most folk here heard all about my problems living down in the city. I hated it where I was.
I'm now at the end of a dirt road that goes in to the state land.

Ditto here. In fact it was our experiences in the last suburb we were in that were the final nail in the coffin of city/cityish life. (The first neighborhood we lived in was like something out of Father Knows Best or The Donna Reed Show, and we loved it. No chickens allowed, though.)

Hope your recovery goes well and quickly, Raz.

I'm here in the ICU. All went well. have a little free time to figure out how to use this old smartphone
that's wonderful! I never wake up that fast. It usually takes me to the next day before I can put two words together! Hope you have a speedy recovery. Wish I could have helped you out but am too far away.
