Here's our breakdown of what the plan is:
Step 1 was getting cleaned, sealed, and any cracks waterproofed. Pretty much done except for a final coat of paint.
Step 2 is Latches:
For latches, we're doing the hasps that twist shut and then you can stick a carabiner/padlock through. Probably padlocks since I have a few of those lying around the house and they'd be predator-proof.
Step 3: Windows
For windows, I just got the hardware cloth cut for the top one and we're getting the extra board cut so that we can sandwich the hardware cloth between the wall and the board. We are thinking about another window--there's the side one and the top one--probably can't see the top from the picture. Either on the other side so they're parallel for a cross-breeze or on the front. Or maybe both? Both might be too much for winter?
Step 4: Run
My Dad's been working on framing out a run so that the coop will be a little taller so they can go underneath for extra shade. I've got the hardware cloth panels cut for the sides and top of that. We just need to figure out the base. I'd love to do a skirt, but he's concerned about the lawn service so we'll likely be doing wire buried straight down. (My Dad's my landlord, hence the reason it matters) Talked about hardware cloth for the floor but consensus seems to be that they could hurt their feet on it?
Step 5: Extras
You currently have to get eggs through the open coop front door, so we're adding locking panel on the back to get to the nesting boxes.
