Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I was outside doing some chores but got chased indoors by the rain.
Did get the carts set on the ground. The light blue is clean enough to use right away in the garage. The yellow ones will be wood rack for sure. Not sure what I'll do with the others.

What a waste to throw such things away without at least offering them on Craigslist or Facebook for free.
Isn't though?
From what I have been told; it's the lawyers that call the shots. They are afraid of liability lawsuits.

I was looking at the racks and I came up with an idea to turn a couple into a brooder. That will give me something to do over the winter. (As if I needed another project. :he )

Hello all.
What a surprise this morning when I went out and found a bit of snow on the ground. So I have a question.
Since this is my first winter in Michigan and with chickens who are not a year yet. They have a coop and a run, I let them free range for a few hours in the evening. Could I still let them free range when there is snow on the ground. I do have plans for a tractor but that is still in planning stage and financial hold up.

You could, some will tolerate it, others may not.
I shovel part of my run, no solid roof, and put a thin layer of straw or shavings down when it gets icy...and to lure them out when the ground first turns white.

Since my run is only partially covered, I do the same as Aart. Although I just chuck a flake of straw in and let the girls demolish it. And last winter I found that my roof rake did a great job clearing snow in the pen,, much faster than shoveling.

Most chickens are not that interested in walking around in snow.
