I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to say goodbye to our trusted buddies. She will be missed.Yesterday, our dog Mara had several grand mal seizures. We took her to Animal Emergency Hospital in Grand Rapids. Things were not good, and we chose to say goodbye to our lovely girl this afternoon.
RIP, Mara. You were and are much loved. We'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge with Shadow and Raven.
I have heard this before, not sure it was gypsy moth caterpillars. There is a sound out in my yard that sounds exactly like softly falling rain. One can even feel the drops falling on one's head and body.
However, this is not rain...or even liquid drops.
It is frass from millions of gypsy moth caterpillars.
Indeed, going outside one is getting pooped on by caterpillars.
Yesterday, the whole region was spayed for gypsy moth eradication. It will take a few days before the dead caterpillars start raining down Trouble is, the insecticide being sprayed also kills the good butterflies and moths. I have to wonder what effect the poisoned caterpillars has on the critters that eat them.
I am so sorry Sally. Mara was loved until the end. She knows that because she chose you to be her human mom.Yesterday, our dog Mara had several grand mal seizures. Will do. I do not want an accident to happen. And will put wood shavings in the nest boxes. They were tired last night. Picked them up one by one again because nothing I try will get them to me. No oats, fruits, not even watermelon which they love. They do not like mealworms, lol they are retarded. But they did not move through the night at allDreamz, it is always a good idea to secure a lamp in two ways with metal connectors. That lamp hanger loop is not very secure. I usually take some wire and attach it to the clamp as a backup.
Hay has lots of stuff that chickens like to eat, such as leaves. It's great for kicking around, but they also will often dig and scratch and kick it out of the nest boxes. They will do the same thing with oat straw. I use the flake shavings from TSC and just change them out every week or so.
If you pull your nest box covers and the young birds start sleeping in them, just cover them back up for another couple weeks.
