Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Did this myself today for the turkeys so hot and humid last few days and next few. Looks like I will be freezing some more large zucchinis for them for tomorrow afternoon. They love the frozen vegie sickles :drool
I put out huge ice blocks today.
Willie came right over and stood with both feet on the ice.
I swear I heard him heave a big sigh of delight.
Wish I had gotten a pic...he stood there for a good 5 minutes then stepped off,
was afraid he might slip as he's got some mobility issues,
but he didn't just called all the girls over.

The other day we were working out in the yard and my DH comes up to me and says I think I found a box turtle... I'm look at it no way that's a tortoise!! So this little fella either escaped or was a drop off. I put him in our cold frame and he happily ate the lettuce I had growing in it. Not sure what I'm going to do with him. I looked to see if anyone posted a lost tortoise anywhere with no luck. He is a
Sulcata or Spurred Tortoise.

The time has come! One of my two white Chantecler roosters, both hatched April 2020, has to move on. They are sparring, nothing serious (yet!) but issues will get worse, probably. Nice big boys, polite to humans, good with the hens and chicks, but evenly matched and one has to go. i would like to keep one of this year's cockerels, and one of the EE bantam cockerels.
Sadly, one of the EE bantams is developing into a second cockerel (it figures!) and also needs another home.
All Marek's vaccinated, hatched in April, from Cackle.
Let me know if interested. Pictures coming up.
@RaZ has a few of the Chanties from last year, how are they doing now?

My Chanteclers are doing well. The hens lay jumbo eggs, almost the size of the duck eggs. Big Boy, the mature roo, is in charge of the flock despite having a pronounced limp. Little Boy, now a year+ old, is a sneak-attack mounter of hens. If Big Boy catches him he will chase Little Boy all over the yard. Big Boy is very good at finding snacks and calling the hens to eat what he found. Both roos are the same size now. Huge!

My flock is mixed 1 and 2 year old hens. I haven't had a single girl go broody. I guess that is a good thing.

I had to work all weekend so I wasn't around during the day. The nights were wall-to-wall idiots on vacation. I'm always glad when they go back and peace returns to the woods and water. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Morning all! Hope you enjoyed the holiday! My family is visiting from Ohio. This is the first extended visit since Christmas of 2019! We are having a great time. Went to see fireworks, went to the beach, grilled typical July 4th fun foods! Mom is enjoying the screened in porch. She is very unsteady on her feet so only having to step down slightly to get to the porch is helpful.

My routine was busted one evening due to a competitive game of cornhole and I left the littles feed container just outside the coop to refill. I watched those darn raccoons drag that feeder straight out of the sight of the camera! They even snatched the water container that had a glass Ball jar on it. :he

Now I am having nightmares that they are going to get into the coop and run and get my girls!!!

Today’s excursion will be a couple of day trips to Rockford and Holland. More grilling…this time I think chicken and grilled veges!

Looks like everyone’s projects are moving along nicely and all the littles everyone has from the spring are getting big:) It is so hard to believe how well my little ones are getting along with the bigs in the run. They have their own little space and place to eat. I did convert over to Flock Raiser feed so the littles can munch on that too. The OS and crushed egg shells will be refilled a bit more often I bet, but as long as everyone is healthy and happy, thats all I care about.

I’m on vacation this week so it is Saturday all over again for me! Cheers everyone

New huddle box picture. @aart, your opinion? The opening is about 6" high by 7" wide.

Suggestions of how to get them to go in at night? I'm thinking the obvious one of treats, but maybe there's a second one for added incentive. They can't get behind this one, but could huddle beside it.

How many chicks?
Might increase the opening wider.

This is not a great pic, but shows the huddle box I used long ago,
with a roost above the huddle box.
It is inside a crate that has a restricted opening for integrating younger chicks.
