Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've been hiding out inside a lot because of the air quality, ugh! Canada definitely needs rain!!!
Our ten TSC chicks are four weeks old and doing great,. they look ragged as their feathers are coming in, but cute anyway. So far no cockerels...
Two are not as advertised, must be Mystic Marans, not Sapphire Gems. Fine with me! I have two Australorps, two MMs, three SGs, and three EEs. Some can move on at Chickenstock, if anyone is interested.
Anyone successfully transplant Sassafras trees? of any age, or time of year? Tried recently with some seedlings, and all look really bad right now. Books say it's really difficult, and they aren't so available in nurseries, no doubt for that reason. Amazon advertises some on their site, any of you try them?

Oh wow! Transplanting sassafras??? How about getting rid of sassafras? They come up from the roots, they spread by seed, and string trimming the little seedlings doesn't kill them!

Mary, send me a PM the day before Chicken Stock, and I'll dig up a bunch of them and bring them to you if you want. I don't know if they'll live, but I have PLENTY to spare.

I love them! We had them next to our previous house, and here they are much further away in the fence row.
Both places, they grow at the edge of woods, and can be mowed in the cleared area. It's the multiflora roses and autumn olive that want to take over!
Not to mention the Norway maples...
Lilacs! We have many starts of several colors, anyone? Especially if you come and dig your own.

I would gladly take sassafras over Sumac! Those also come up from root runners and take over everything! Our neighbor came out Saturday and cleared them for us from our side lot 😅
