Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Betty Beeby also illustrated a couple of books by Nancy Stone:
Whistle Up The Bay
The Wooden River

I think they'd be termed "young adult" novels nowadays. The illustrations are pen and ink drawings.

Just typing in her name gave lots of links, but I didn't find the "grand mural at the Mackinac Visitors Center."

Thank you for those titles. I've been reading more historic fiction lately, and I'm going to look for Nancy Stone's books.

I'm sorry that these are rotated 90°, and opposite directions at that! The top one is half of the flyleaf of Whistle Up The Bay. If you zoom in and look at the armpit of the child on the east side of Torch Lake, you see "Eastport." Betty Beeby's home town. Mine too.

The bottom picture is the inscription she wrote/drew on the copy my mom bought. Yeah, it's to my sister, brother, and me.

This book is one of the things I didn't know were treasures way back when, but now I do.

That is very cool! Her penmanship is impeccable! 🤩
