Pullet.

Pullet.
:lau:gigWell I guess I can't complain about family farm and home or the hatchery they get their chicks from. 28 out of 28 pullets. And I was hoping to get a cockerel or two. Too bad I didn't get the ones that someone here had just recently. I was holding out, hoping one of those were a cockerel

Probably that was me. At TSC, three cockerels, two pullets, and at a different TSC, actually five pullets, although while all started out gray/ blue, three different breed types. Farm stores, always interesting 'pullet bins'!
Our new d'Uccle chicks, of course straight run, at least one obvious cockerel so far. As long as all six aren't boys it's fine.
And HH, those are beautiful birds! SS hens are the best!

Yes, it was you. I was drawing a blank last night. I knew it was you or Sally. I would've liked to have a black Australorp rooster. But now I'm thinking I would like to get a speckled Sussex rooster. So I'm going to hold out until next spring and hopefully ffh can order a couple of them along with a couple of SS pullets.
I hope you got lucky with this group of chicks.

Good day from the UP. I’m curious about Fall color changes across the state. I’m seeing maples change in the north-central UP and in the Keweenaw, mostly yellows and early orange. It feels like Fall
We've had color for a while. Not very vibrant, this year, though

If you want a rooster I have a good boy who could use a home. Absolutely nothing wrong with him, just having two is overloading my hens.

Years ago, three different hatcheries, SS straight run chicks. I wanted to have a small breeding group, so needed some cockerels. Maybe ten or twelve males over a couple of years, so not a huge number, but still...
As they matured, some were human aggressive (very!) and some were polite. Naturally, the bigger boys, up to standard weights, were the obnoxious ones, and the 'too small' males were the nice ones.
I gave up and since then only have SS hens, never tried cockerels again of this breed.
It has been a long time, so may your cockerels be wonderful!
Mary
