Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It was up above freezing for most of the day today, but foggy until late in the afternoon. Started off with an ice fog, then had a little freezing rain, then the icy coating on clear cement thawed back off again. It's definitely spring in Michigan. And we're supposed to have a big snowstorm on Wednesday.

I scored a couple of bales of hay used as seating for an event in town, threw one in the chicken pen and pulled it apart a little bit, threw a few handfuls of scratch on top and boy were the chickens happy.

Mine love straw!

Hi, I have a question about hoop coops/runs. I live in the UP where we can get over 300 inches of snow in the winter. I'm thinking about doing a hoop coop and run and I'm wondering if it'll hold up to the snow. Anyone with experience I'd love to hear it!
I am working on replacing my green house run that caved in from snow weight while I was out of town bc i forgot to put the 2x4 supports up, replacing with a rounded greenhouse style & dreaming of a real metal roof & hardware cloth run...someday. Your post gave me the idea to reinforce with a cpl hog panels! Would love to see your finished hoop run!

Oh that's a bummer! I'm still undecided as to what I'll be doing and we have to wait until the snow clears so I have some time to figure it out! My thought was the hoop idea would be cheaper but I tried pricing it out and with all new material it'd be more than I originally thought so we'll see. If we can find some used materials maybe we'll end up just doing a typical roofed run. If I get something done I'll post some pictures but it wouldn't be for a while yet!
