Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I worry sometimes about the black silkie, omg, he is the sweetest bird. I pick him up and can carry him around.. he just makes a soft clucking sound..... I don't think he can see a thing though. Does anyone else trim facial feathers around their silkies eyes?
I gave up, unless I shaved her it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Bretheren - my birds ended up 4.3, 3.6 and 2.7 pounds. The largest was a big Black Orpington and the smallest a Polish.

How pretty!

I don't own any Silkies or know anything about them but as for trimming so they can see I'd use caution. I remember I read somewhere, long, long, ago that animals usually have this type of characteristic trait for a purpose....(because they have sensitive eyes to the light)....don't know how true it is. I think I was reading about Sheep Dogs at the time.

Lots of stuff is maturing in the garden now. Going to have start pickling, canning, freezing, drying and of course eating and passing goodies on to friends and neighbors.

I canned 8 pints of pickles the other day. I have another 8 pints to do but I ran out of spice mix. Looks like a quick trip to the store.
I had bought some sweet corn but didn't get to it right away and the husks got moldy. So I shucked the questionable ears and gave it to the chickens. They went absolutely nuts over it. That corn was super sweet. I supposed I'll be getting pre-sweetened eggs.

Boaters like to take eggs on long journeys! They can leave them on the counter and use their small refrigerators for other groceries!
..."gonna need a bigger boat"... with a bigger fridge.

Also just thought about a journey on a small boat with eggs.... they'd be scrambled
