Farmerboy: Yes CHopper needs a friend, but he's a barrow so nothing good could come of it. He does enjoy this cool weather and loves to chase chickens!!

At this rate I will never have any eggs! Or will they still lay eggs even though they think they are boys?
The new crower literally says Cock-a-doodle-doo... She tries soooo hard!

Oh, I see. lol Well, I have 7 males and 6 female piglets that need a good home, some of them I want to keep for next year's pork.

I only have Embden geese, and will only stick with one breed of geese. I am liking the Embdens well so far. They are much quieter and calmer than the Chinese that I use to have. They grow much faster then the Chinese too. But I only have 1 female out of 4 goslings, so I will have a pair, but that is fine with me. :) If I really like them, I will keep one extra male thru the winter, to produce more females for my best male. :D

Jen, hope your bunny pulls thru...

I'll keep your family in my prayers.

Another rainy day. We sure do need it, but puts a damper on the free ranging. For the second day, I've chased a either a small hawk or a falcon from the lilac bush where my chickens like to hang out. I heard the warning call yesterday and hurried out and there it was, in the bush. First day I was in the run putting the rabbits in and the darn thing came crashing thru the bush and crashed into the run. I actually hit the hardware cloth to chase it away. So, good that it's raining and I can keep the birds in and keep them safe until the hawk finds a new area to hunt.
Hope you all enjoy your day. Good day to catch up on all the inside cleaning we don't do all summer long cuz we're out with the chickens!!

So far, just cloudy here, much as it was all day yesterday. Not a drop. Silly birds all stayed inside for most of the day, except for the silkies. They never seem to mind the rain.

Question: How long after you break a broody before she might start to lay eggs again?

One was white, one pink. I didn't let them out today because of the rain and no other chickens were in there so is it really possible for an @3-4 month old to have laid an egg so soon? I mean, isn't that super early for a chicken?
I have an Isa Brown that started laying at 17 weeks. Three months old seems early but I'm super new to chickens so I have no idea.

Here is what is should look like

Does anyone know if I should worry about these spiders hanging out with the chickens?
The chickens don't eat them...
I found 2 on the coop tonight.
I rather like spiders (yes I catch them in cups and put them outside)
This is a picture of one that I found in the garage last year. I was fine with her staying outside... she was almost 3in long!
I have no clue but that's a big spider!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
How are everyone's chickens dealing with the rain? Mine seem not to notice it. The Silkies are sodden and muddy and oblivious.
My chickens don't seem to mind the rain either. If it's raining hard they go back to the coop or the covered dog run but otherwise they mill around like normal.

Good morning all, my family and friends will be part of that human shield. If anyone wants information on taking part, please PM me. There is no reason for a group to put forth such hatred in the name of God. Especially toward someone who died protecting the very rights they have to do so.

Morning all!
Well we've been bustin' with litters right now so we have some junior age rabbits for our ARBA convention in Witchita,KS in October. :) I have been battling to keep my favorite Belgian Hare alive.
I hope she pulls through.

Daron - My prayers are still with your family. I just can't imagine. My sister is just 2 weeks from her due date and we are all waiting while holding our breath. Last summer she lost her daughter while in labor...no explanation as to why. So we are praying all goes well with this little girl and as her 5 year old daughter prays for daily is born as "A crying baby girl".

The Wolf spider is pretty common in Michigan. Much to common for my liking. Jim Stafford pretty well summed it up in a song "I don't like spiders and snakes".

Now that you mention it Uncle Sam had me going out of perfectly good planes and helicopters. Then the fire department required rappelling from a 110' aerial platform. Ah to be young and dumb again.
