forgot to mention, Meijers has canning jars buy 2 get one free, brings the price down considerably any size, through the 24th

also have a homemade launder soap recipe using boraxo,, borax super wash, baking soda, oxyclean, and fels naptha if any one is interested, you only use 1 Tbs. seems to work well but have only used a few times so far....
I've done the homemade laundry soap thing. I love the smell of the laundry, but the last time my hubby went out fishing, I did his laundry afterward, and hanging it out on the line I noticed a fishy smell. Stuck my nose into his shirt and that was it. It did not get the fish odor out at all. Better luck to you. Mine was only Borax, Washing Soda and Fels-Naptha. lots of recipes online.

Here is the recipe I use.

Prices for each are approximate depending on where you buy them. I personally put my soap in a covered 5 gallon bucket and keep it under my laundry room sink.

If you want it to smell like "something" you can put any essential oil in it. LOTS of drops since there is so much soap. Eucalyptus, lavender, citrus, peppermint, etc. Anything "Clean" smelling.

I have a family of 5...3 of which are dirty little boys(haha) and I probably make 2 batches of this a year. Each batch uses approximately $2.50 worth of product. So I guess I'm really only spending $5 a year!

SAFE FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY WASHERS...which is what I have...because neither of these soaps suds.

1 bar Kirk's Castile Soap(it comes in a 3 pack)
1/3 Bar Fels-Naptha soap
1 1/2 C Borax powder
1 1/2 C Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

Grate the entire bar of Kirks and 1/3 of Fels-Naptha into a big pot. Fill said pot 1/2 full of water and then cook until soap is melted. Add the Borax and Washing Soda and stir until dissolved. Take a clean 5 gallon bucket and fill 1/2 way with water. Add soap mixture and stir. Fill the rest of the way with water and let sit overnight. The mixture turns into this congealed gel type stuff. I just took my hands and mixed it all up.
Use approximately 1/2 - 1 cup per load of laundry.
I also use Distilled white vinegar as a fabric softener. It neutralizes odors and soften clothes. You can also add essential oils to that.
I'll have to try that white vinegar idea on my hubby's fishing clothes, it does not touch the odor of fish I've noticed. Nor does it remove cologne smell. thanks for the tip.

my Meijer didn't carry all the ingredients. Wal-Mart did tho.
I was able to find every thing at the meijer in lowell, don't know about the Kirks castle soap, never heard of that before but I will look next time I go there

looked back about 10 pages, trying to find the ## of qt. Farmerboy said they canned? couldn't find it. I got 22 from a bushel would have gotten more if I hadn't tossed a bunch with soft spots to the chickens... They love tomatoes

I was just looking over some of the online recipes for laundry soap again. Some of them called for only 1/2 cup of the washing soda and Borax, while others called for a whole cup of each. Next time I make it I may try the higher dose of ingredients cuz it really didn't touch the fishy smell on my husbands clothes.

Congrats Theron!

FUZZY! These ones are for you!

These are the two I was talking about. The cockerel behind them and in front of them are the same ages as them with in a week...

And a better veiw of the white one. The black on isn't as pretty as this one. She's more skinny, has always been, but she is also muffed/bearded.
