Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

There was a prosecuting attorney at the GAAMPs meeting yesterday with several questions and an apparent agenda of shutting down ALL backyard flocks by using the RTFA against people in the sub-divisions.

What is WRONG with people? A chicken is a harmless animal that provides food. Why doesn't this prosecutor go after drug dealers instead of backyard chicken owners?

Raz those meetings sound interesting.... knowing how others are handling the opposition should help some.... I really don't know why people are so afraid of chickens. I would much rather have 3 chickens next door to me then 3 small yappie dogs. or like a friend of mine with a neighbor that has 6 or more gray hounds. in a small yard supposedly dogs up for adoption, city does nothing about the stench.....

Mary, I did not understand your comments about the guineas. When I visited Farmer boy last Summer his guineas were chasing his chickens like crazy and plucking their tails out! Are you sure you want guineas?

Jen doesn't know it yet, but I am saving money for gas so I can go do a coop raid when she isn't looking. HEEHEE. Probably not. As soon as it gets close to the 2nd, OR the 2nd, I am hoping to be able to get day old SS from Randy. Skeeters eggs are due to hatch that day, and I figure I could sneak a few under her when she's not looking. LOL..

Neighbor raised some guineas WITH his chickens. Not a problem there. In fact, his poor SLW cockerel was devastated when he took them and left him with the chickens. He was always with them LOL.

One of the male guineas for some reason, did not like the Dark Cornish roosters, and would always chase them and pull out their tails, but they left the other roos alone. Stoopid bird.

Oh, also I read that more guineas you have, less they will bother the chickens, for they will be too busy bothering each other to bother the chickens. I have hatched out 12 guineas, so I will see if that will work.

wow! thanks for the offer! If you weren't 4 hours away, I'd completely take you up on it!

Do you remember what the overlap is on the panels? 1 or 2 of the ridges? I'm trying to figure out how many panels we'd need since it seems that if we used the ondura we could skip the osb sheeting and felt paper and save over $100 versus a 35yr shingle and I don't know if I need 9 or 10 of the darn things! It seems/looks like it would be a breeze to install too. DH mentioned something about possibly siding the coop with it as well. Not sure how cost-effective that would be, but I've gotta look into that as well now.

I've installed the panels over the wire covering on our old dog run. Overlap is one ridge, about two inches. See picts on my profile page. Store has Specs. and installation instructions.

I don't want a demo on making soap or even doing laundry I want a demo on how to fold fitted sheets!

Quickly and in a ball.
Candled my eggs last night. Took 11 our of the incubator. 5 clears, 6 blood rings.

I left one in there that I'm pretty iffy about, and I couldn't see through the marans eggs well enough to make the call. I've got a 200 lumens flashlight coming that should be here by Tuesday, so hopefully that will help. I'm pretty disappointed. I know shipped eggs are a gamble, and I still have over half of them left, but 10 of the 11 were my blrw ???? eggs.

Soooo....depending on how you look at it, I'm down to my 'extras' for those now.

blrw ???
Anyone around Genoa Twp. (Howell) area know about a case of backyard chickens going to court?

The attorney's name is Munson or something like that.
Seems like Sam would know.
