Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

On Friday I intend to use some romas for making stewed tomatoes. I will scald and peel them, then bake them in a large roasting pan until softened. Then it's just a matter of chopping them slightly to release so of the water, then ladling into hot jars with a slotted spoon so that not all of the water goes in. Then on to the water bath. Wanting to eat good sure is a lot of work.
It sure is!!

About to see if a first time broody mama is a good mama. I just slipped her five chicks that hatched in my incubator. I don't think one will make it, it pipped through a blood vessel and bled a lot. It is very weak. I expect if it passes, it will do so before dawn. The hen barely muttered when I removed her fake eggs and gave her the chicks. She's been at it for weeks, so I am sure she is ready.

per tonights paper:
"POULTRY, water fowl, small animals & game birds for sale. Over 70 sellers. Sat., Sept 15 from 6 am to noon at Montrose Orchard. 12473 N. Seymour Rd, Montrose, MI. Just a bit north of M-57. SPonsored by the MBGBA. "

anyone going to it??

Here are some updated pics of our coop "renovation". We just need to install the long windows, siding and the little run for them to get to the tiny chicken door. I'm in love!

This new section will be all just open floor space for them.

This is the right side of the coop(blue part)

EDITED TO ADD: there will be hardware cloth on the inside of the widows...forgot to add that little tidbit.
that is really sweet...love that long window. lucky spoiled birds....

Does anyone what some poults? I have some for sale. I had an assortment of heritage poults from Porters, and I have picked out the breeds that I want, and need to rehome 6 poults. They are- 2 Jersey Buffs, 2 Regal Reds, 1 Black winged bronze and 1 Harvest gold. They are very healthy, and some are very friendly. They were hatched and shipped on August 13.

Please pm me if interested.
I might like those Jersey Buffs, what do they look like??
