I roasted a few batches of the indigo rose tomatoes with garlic, herbs and oil and they're like candy....*drool* I froze what I didn't snack on.

Hi fellow Michiganders,
I have two bantam roosters looking for a new home: a red/brown Cochin rooster and a black frizzle rooster both about 4 months old. We live in a neighborhood and can't keep a rooster. They are both beautifully feathered and very tame. They would make a wonderful addition to a bantam flock! I live in Oakland County Michigan and the birds are free to a good home. What kind of flooring do you have in your basement? Any rugs or furniture? Fleas can live in dirt floors quite happily.

We have concrete floors. No rugs, carpets or furniture down there.

BackyardFarmMom, Some times it is amazing the wounds that chickens can recover from.

Very true. Quite a few months ago I had 2 isa's that were pecked on by the others to the point they both had actual holes in their skulls. I got them isolated, treated and waited for them to succumb to their injuries, but they never did. They are currently running around my yard on a daily basis chasing bugs and such and you would never know they were ever injured.

I know I'm a few pages behind, but fleas can live in concrete!! It's porous so they lay their little eggs in the holes and are almost impossible to get rid of.

Your roosters are beautiful!
Please be very careful who you give your roosters to as some people will take them and use them in a way that you might not approve of.
They are very nice and I hope you can find good homes!

Pam - roasting the tomatoes in the oven makes the flavor just pop! You'll love it!

Sorry to hear about the losses and injuries...

Busy weekend... Had my son's 5th birthday party today and I'm wore out.

Been busy trying to integrate a new hen. She was the sole survivor when my father in law had to go out of town for several weeks and something tunneled into his pen. She been alone for some time and holed up in a neighbors garage sitting on a whole nest full of unfertilized eggs... so now I have 2 want to be broody hens

. The first time I tried to add her to the flock, everyone went nuts and there were a few scuffles, but the main problem was the drake. He grabbed a mouth full of feathers and I had to separate them. I put her in a wire pen outside the fenced in area so they could see each other for a while. Then for the last 2 days, I've put the pen inside the fenced in area so they could get used to each other. I let her out and the drake went after her again. I took him out so she could be with the girls and they were fine together. For the first night since she's been here she's in the coop with the other hens and things seem to be ok. I'm hoping that if the girls accept her, the drake will too.... lots of drama in my yard and the only 1 laying eggs is the duck! I had to buy eggs yesterday .

I too am in the OC! I understand the roo issue! I got 11 chickens this year and so far 7 have proven to be roos! Rediculous!

lots of drama in my yard and the only 1 laying eggs is the duck! I had to buy eggs yesterday .

I hope you did not buy store eggs.

I have eggs if you need them. Four dozen in the fridge...and one on the counter.
