I've been keeping stats on mine since December of last year. At first it was for my Bio-Stats class, now it is just fun to see how things are going.
I can tell you the mean, mode, median, standard deviation, number per day, weight of each egg, etc.
Does that make me a chicken nerd?

Absolutely nothing to do with chickens but...schoolwork took longer today so I missed lunch. I walked to the garden and picked a tomato and some basil and am now enjoying a wonderful grilled tomato, mozzarella and basil sandwich.

I love this time of the year. My only wish is that some apples would have made it. Out of our 25+ trees we have 1 with apples this year.

Off to clean the coop and integrate the last 5 youngsters.

My hawked baby got a bath today and I put TAO on all of her boo boos. When she was all dry, I wet her food down and she started to really get going on it! I had made scrambled eggs for lunch (thank you RaZ) and the boys left some so she got those too! Man did she gobble those up!
I am so proud of her!
I just keep putting TAO on her big boo boo to keep it nice and moist.

PS I hate the word "moist"...

Yes, sorry I wasn't meaning I was upset that I wasn't getting 3 a day, but I was thinking I would get 2.day from 3.

I think the one is molting right now, so that would make a difference, and they seem to like there new place now, I was just hoping it would go up from 1/day


It is darker than I was thinking in there coop, if it was too dark would that be the reason, or one of the reasons?

Ooh PLUS my egg seems to come after noon, I thought they laid in the morning as a general rule?

My hens are lazy that way, my roo was too. He didn't even bestir himself to crow until a couple hours AFTER the sun was up, and the hens didn't lay eggs as a rule until noonish. (But i did get to watch sometimes! ) Easter eggers......... Spoiled ones, at that, i "free feed" them so they don't have the big incentive to do more than poop and cuddle, lol.

I had a family practice doctor recently tell me to not keep putting ointment on my kids wounds as they need to dry up and scab and heal. I know at the hospital we kept burns moist but perhaps the doctor is right about letting things dry and scab up. Just thought I would share that point of view with you as it was new to me.

I found that when my hens got out and got grass and bugs and sunlight, I got more eggs. Can you put a plexiglass window in especially for the Winter months? The egg farms keep lights on for 16 hours per day which a lot of us on this thread thought was excessive. I got good egg production with about 12-14 hours of light per day but the sun helps them make Vit D just like us so it is really good for egg production.

if they were locked up in the coop all day, maybe, but if they're free to come n go, then I doubt it. Maybe come winter time it could have a bearing, you may want to add a light.

Depends on the wound. Surface wounds, yes they should be allowed to dry up and scab over. Deep wounds, need to heal from the inside out. Allowing them to dry and scab over may allow an infection to set in under the scab. I would also use natural sea salt to help washout wounds. It is soothing and helps aid in healing.

This has been my experience at least with the deep puncture wounds my dogs would get with their occasional fighting.. ugh!
