Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Does anyone know who is selling the organic eggs on Cascade Rd. in or near Ada? By Quiggle. I go by there occasionally and I'm just curious.

My white leghorn is an egg laying machine!!! Started laying really early too!

Those silkies in sweaters are adorable! Makes me want a silkie even more!

These pigeons of mine are having a series of unfortunate events. One got attacked and killed by a cat this past week and now today two younger babies were not being fed or sat on. One died and the other is still alive and I will probably have to hand feed it. I am glad I don't have a really expensive breed of pigeon or else this would be alot worse.

lol, no you wouldn't..... the girls are half bald from all the rooster affections and the roos are molting..... it's a pathetic sight really!

heres an older pict when they've seen - better days! LOL!

Got a date set to take the fav, silkie, uggo and I may just take the sumatra roos too, to the yakladys place to process. If anyone want's one, let me know now!!!
They look pretty nice to me my Roo and some of my hens are looking pretty pathetic right now also I'm kinda mad was going to take my roo to fowlfest but not looking the way he is right now.. Do you breed your Faverolles? and are they LF? I'm going to be having some chicks in the spring maybe we can do some swapping

My cockeral went to live near Quiggle Lake. I don't know, but it might be hens from his harem.

like I said, that pict was a while ago, when I only had the two roos..... now I have 6, and everyone looks a shambles! I will be thinning out all but one roo and a few hens and kinda starting over with them. I have had a few hatching's from them, but honestly, I am not happy with the quality of the birds from the hatchery some of the offspring weren't even close, missing beards etc.. and not very friendly. I guess I'm getting disenchanted with them.

About 8:30 this morning I was doing some typing on the computer and my son wandered through to see what I was doing. He tells me he sees something in the tall grass about 40 yards from the house. I look and thought it was a fox, so off I went for the gun. When I came back I couldn't see it and neither could he. So outside I went and found it was a coyote, easy shot as it was playing in the field but the direction he was I would have been shooting towards the neighbor's woods and his son bow hunts. So back to the house I sneak, make a phone call, it's ok to shot that way, so I sneak back out. The formerly perfect shot had now moved and was a not so good shot. But as it was a coyote so I shot anyway to scare him off. I have no doubt it will be back soon, hopefully not when the chickens are out.

I love the silkie sweaters! It might actually keep them cleaner.

I spent the afternoon rearranging the chicken yard. It is about 20 x 30'. I have a quarter of it with a tarp over it to keep off rain. I put up a tarp as a windbreak for the same quarter, so there is an area between the two coop that now has one side covered. Not sure that is explained very well. Then I did some instant roosts under it with two blocks and a 2 x 4. When I moved my 5 youngsters into the large coop instead of having them fight for new roost space I stuck up two "temporary" roosts. Small, close together for the little ones, however now that they are comfortable there the larger birds are moving in and are hilarious to watch try to fit themselves on them. I guess instead of the grass is always greener it is a case of the new roost is always better, even though in this case is is most certainly not.

That's funny taprock. I can totally see the big butts trying to fit on the little roost!

theron, that stinks. No matter the breed, they are yours and no one can fault you for being upset.

Is the one even close to being able to eat crumbles? In a pinch warm cream of wheat in a pop bottle cap works good. That will fill the belly, if you can at least mash some chick crumbles into powder you can mix that with the wheat to make it more nutritious. I like feeding crumbles+ seeds. Do yours eat that, or are they seed only eaters?
