Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Scifisarah - beautiful looking run and decorations.

Byfm - love those uggos.

I know there are lots of opinions on using a light. I do add two hours in the morning all winter in one coop. I try to balance it out, enough to keep them moving and laying but not so much that all they do is sit around and eat. Two winters ago I way over fed them and they came out of the winter months very fat. They pay for their feed so if they aren't laying enough some one has to go. Usually it seems the girls rotate on their breaks from laying so it's not an issue. But 4 eggs from 42 is a bit weak.

It's pouring outside, so much for a dry coop, I'm betting on a wet spot on the floor tomorrow. At least tonight it is above 32 and not below.

Rain is supposed to move in tonight and 40% chance tomorrow. I wanted to cut wood today but my temporary crown broke and I had to go back for a new one. The permanent one will be ready in a few days in case this one doesn't last.

My BLA is moulting so bad it looks like she went through a wood chipper. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.

Yeah, it sure seems like when it rains, it pours........ at least the little black cloud hanging over my house is! I had Gino scheduled tomorrow for his leg surgery .... but noticed tonight he wasn't acting right, so a trip to the vet after work, they were busy....I thought maybe I was just being paranoid and went home. ... yeeeeeeahhhhh....... ever see a dog projectile puke? not pretty.. now escalated to emergency trip to the vet and x-rays.. to find THIS! Needless to say, leg surgery is postponed until we can take care of this issue.......... I keep asking myself why I keep doing this........

Did I mention that I've been up since 2:00 am..........and it's 12:30 am......... I'm officially DONE for the day!

Well, it looks like the mallard hen has left. There was no sign of her in any of the adjacent yards. Good luck, little duck.

A couple of hens are in full moult, so only 6 eggs today and I broke one in my pocket. My BLA looks awful.

Good luck, duck! And LOL, seriously. You guys and breaking eggs in your pockets. That is way worse than the occasional poop between the toes.

How does PUL breathe with a solid coating of plastic across the back of the fabric?

I'm not sure, but there is a whole wide world of difference between my old diaper covers and my new diapers. They are way, WAY less "plasticy".

You beat me to the picture spam! I actually worked up a good sweat today making my chicken run look as pretty as it has in a while so I had to share.

Beautiful! Some day I will be "done" with mine. /sigh

Yee gads, what is it!?

I saw this picture and it sent me on a memory trip of almost 50 years, back to the last time I had mess tent coffee during a Army winter field problem. Coffee grounds were brought to a boil in a large pot and after the cook felt the color was correct egg shells were added to settle the grounds. You'd dip you metal canteen cup in hoping to not get too many grounds. First sip would scald the skin from your lips and tongue, and the last swallow would be ice cold. Plus you would usually have to chew your coffee.

That's when manly men were, manly men!!!
Though I think I could go chew some coffee this morning too.. I need it extra strong after yesterday's 23 hr marathon! Good news this morning, the object in ginos gut is on the move! He is very uncomfortable but so far things are progressing. We'll go back to the vet tonight for a 3rd xray and see how we stand.

Beautiful morning with the sun shining against the dark clouds!

good gracious it's a chilly one out there today! getting a fire going in the wood boiler and hopefully I'll be able to turn the heat on by lunch time! Anyone think it'll actually hit the 60s on Sunday like they're forecasting? I STILL have to get my bulbs planted and I refuse to aggrevate my cold by working outside in this silly weather!

Thanks for the tips about my chick Brethren! It seems to be a little better today.....or at least it's not 'paste-ing' up like it was the past few days. I don't have mineral oil, but I did find some old A&D ointment from when my old kids were in diapers and I smeared some of that around its little tush.

Went out to fill up the feeder this morning and caught on of the BRs hanging out in one of the nest boxes. Still no eggs, but hopefully they're gearing up for some production!

As I sat here drinking my coffee I heard the weatherman utter to words that I hadn't heard or missed for months..........................wind chill.
I must admit that hearing them again does make it a little harder to keep a positive attitude but since I was able to hear them it's going to be a good day.
I love Garfield so this made me smile...not crazy about those words either though. lol!

Not crazy about the weather we've been having...Darkwing seems to be holding his own though...looks like we'll have a lot more company here for him in the next couple weeks! :D
