Satin balls are great aren't they!
What are satin balls pray tell?
Oh my word! I SEE what you mean about slick as a seal! Goodness, he's got a beautiful hair coat! A testament to his good heatlh, I'm sure.

We always give table scraps to all 3 of our dogs with no ill effects. I am adamant, though, that this is done in their bowls in the kitchen so they don't beg while we eat.
I have a great dane too! He is my baby and a beauty. He is black, but not breed standard black because he has too large of a white spot on his chest and a white patch on the back of each foot. His name is Brutus, and he is almost 5...and still completely acts like a puppy most of the time! He get's table scraps too occassionally...but also only in his bowl so that he doesn't beg..here's a pic from when we went up to Neebish Island this summer...

RaZ!!!! Thank you sooooo much for all your hard work! And thank you to everyone else who has pitched in!
I have already written one letter but will write another. I have been super busy here and just got back from a blogging conference in PA. I'd like to do an article on my blog about this issue though and would love your help if you'd be up for it...hopefully it will help raise some awareness...I will message you for details. Competitive cheer season is about to start so that means I'll be super busy real soon.

WashtenawFarms(sorry if that name is wrong, I have no brain cells right now)

The the person talking about a meeting in Oxford...I am not far from there and would be interested in more info.

To the person looking for a food place...I am an hour north of detroit but I heard there is a good store here...I should finally be getting there this weekend.

As for me I have been SUPER sick...no idea what's going on...way more info than any of you probably want to know, but I had a miscarriage in June of this year and I think my hormones have been out of whack ever since...I finally am able to get into the doc on the 21st of this month...then I woke up with this morning with a nasty sinus infection and I have to teach 2 classes at co-op tomorrow, so that should be interesting! lol!

Alright, I have to go get a few things around for co-op and I have to stage coffee for the morning, then heading to bed so I can get an early start tomorrow! Night all!

Oh, and PS is anyone else doing NanoWriMo? I tried, and failed last year, and then my computer crashed and I lost 17,000 words. :/ I'm trying again this year though!

Oh and I made all my kids Halloween costumes...they were character's from Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender...Zuko, Katara, Aang, and Toph...

Oh your dane is handsome too! I see a lot of Gunny in his face!!

I am sorry for your loss!
And hope you feel better soon! Sinus infections are no fun... I put heating pads on my face when I get one.

The kids look great! And happy too! Hope they made out like bandits with the goodies!

Thanks BYFM! Good idea with the heat pack!

I almost forgot!!!! I think my ducks started laying...either that or the New Hampshire finally laid when I went away for the weekend...they could be from my EE but they look at lot pointier at the ends than her other eggs have, and the ducks (who I thought couldn't walk up the planks that I specifically made wide enough for them to go up) were in the nesting boxing when I went to see them as soon as I got home! I was so excited! lol!...maybe I'll snap a pic in the morning...I need to start eating these puppies! I just love getting them so much that I want to save them! lol! I don't know much about birds yet, but I thought it was kind of cute...my nest boxes are a little on the bigger side...not huge, but a little spacious, well both my duck hens were in one and my drake was in their with them! I figured he was protecting his ladies and thought it was really cute! I don't know if they were laying or just trying to sit on the eggs since hubby forgot to collect them! lol!

Hi RBahmer, BYFM, Theron
Her Theron, when can I expect then serema hen I got from you to lay? The cockerel shows no interest in her, but he loves him some Loralie... Faverolle hen... She does not share his enthusiasm though. Lol
do you have a picture of her? She should start laying at around 7 to 8 months. I have had them start laying at even around 9 months.

I just wrote Linda Lee from WYCD to see if she could get some media on the subject. My MIL is related to her by marriage... we will see...
I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner.

LOVE it!

So sorry for your troubles! I have found Hot and Sour Soup blasts your sinuses clear like nothing else.

Yes, she is a diligent little hen, and pretty quick with the eggs too. I have been taking her out into the pen daily, as she was locked tight to the nest from the moment the eggs magically appeared under her. She runs around, eats some scratch, drinks and poops, jumps on the stump to flap her wings - squawking and complaining the whole time. Then an irresistable force takes hold of her and back on the egg she goes.

1muttsfan - very intense look on her face, she's cute.

to all of you protecting chicken keeping. I have heard nothing about it up here.

Two of my young button quail went to a new home last night. I'll miss the little guys but I think the parents are happy the herd is thinning.

All my chickens seem so skinny right now. I'm guessing because of the molt. So I got a bag of soybean meal to add to the regular layer mash to up the protein levels. I'm thinking they should start gaining, all they do is sit around and eat as they haven't wanted to be out in the wind and rain. I closed all the chickens up last night to find blood on my hand. So back through all the birds I went with a flashlight until I found one of the big roos (Fred the Basque) with torn up bloody wattles. He is one of the biggest guys so I'm not sure who would be daring enough to mess with him. No one else had any marks. I took him in and son and DH cleaned him off, I powdered him up with blood stop and put him back out.

I'm not liking the colder weather but it isn't the problem. I am so tired of the wind. It doesn't matter how much I bundle up I just don't want to be outside in the wind. I'm not sure I'm ready for the time change and dark evenings but I are really looking forward to more light in the morning.
