You could always surprise your husband at the hospital with chicks/duckling like I did last year!

I've always been of the opnion that pet stores should sell as few pets as possible, maybe a few parakeets, feeder mice, a few rabbits and guinea pigs. I don't think they should sell puppies and kittens, let alone large parrots and poultry. Cuts down on impulse buys and uneducated people.

Happy Easter!

Hope calls those Phyliss Diller chickens. We only have one top knotted bird, a pyncheon bantam pullet. I initially didn't like the looks of them but they are starting to grow on me. I sure hope that I never start thinking that the naked necks are cute.

Sun is starting to melt the frost and everything is glistening. Just went out to check on the new chicks and a couple dozen wild turkeys were in the yard. Lots of hens, a couple of jakes, and a huge tom. Quite a spectacular sight. Tail fanned, wings set and dropped , snood extended, and the colors on his head brilliant. I don't think anyone could watch his dance and not be in awe of nature.

Happy Easter, Everyone,

Just say the word, Opa...I could arrange to have some very cute little naked necks at Chicken Stock to help sway you and you could take some home and fall in love.

My husband had told me once before, when looking at your pictures of the wild turkeys..."Yeah, ask him how many are out there on opening day." (inside joke because when he is out deer hunting, the wild turkeys are all around him- but when he went out to the same area to hunt the turkey he didnt see any)..

I was at TSC yesterday, too. Yes, those duckies were toooo cute! I was really proud that my DD marched right up to the counter & pointed out that the ducks were out of water.

Happy Easter all! Had our Easter yesterday. Son was able to come in from Chicago so we had it a day early. Had a brunch at my daughters. Boy, all that food was fantastic. Kids had fun doing the egg hunt before the weather turned. Have a great day everyone.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day of feasting and enjoying the beautiful weather. I too resisted the fuzzy cuteness at TSC, then came home and ordered ducklings from Metzer's - white crested and buff... They're shipping on the 19th, I can't wait. I have 9 eggs under my BO broody, hope she doesn't quit on them again. All the chicks will be mixed except the 2 cochin eggs (should they actually be fertile) as I have a BBS rooster. Should be some interesting looking chicks if any manage to hatch out.

I have spent days trying to locate the calendar that must be hanging some where in the woods. How else would those turkeys know to leave exactly one week before the season opens. We have about forty birds that come with 5 feet of the house several times a day. We have had as many as 100, yet for the past four years they all disappear before the opener and don't return until after the fall turkey season has closed.

Good morning and Happy Easter.

The kids had fun tearing the house apart looking for easter eggs this morning. I always hide the plastic ones filled with candy around the house. They did a pretty good job as I only found 2 that they did not find. I even hid one in with a bunch of real eggs.

Dont worry, I amuse myself.

I picked up my new goslings from Vicki yesterday. We were able to visit for a few minutes, but I had to leave and go to work. I sure did not want to leave those cute little fuzz butts at home. I swear that waterfowl babies are even cuter than chicks.

Our last hatche went great. We had 17 out of 18 Dels hatch, and 13 out of 18 shipped Black Java eggs hatch. The neatest part is we had a 2 white chicks hatch out of the Javas. White Javas are very rare, so it is exciting to add 2 more to my flock. Hopefully they will both be girls so my boy from last year will finally have his own group.

On the way out the door, but wanted to make a quick post to Kathy (lovemychicklets) and let her know we have two pips this morning!!

Hopefully by the time I come home we will have the other two eggs pipped and have some progress on them first ones. Geese are super fast hatchers, but hopefully they will not be to slow!
