Chickflick: Speaking of chicks...I had 59 chicks hatch out this past week/weekend. This morning as I was feeding, a couple of the SHOWGIRL chicks were cheeping "Is Rose my mommy?"
Little buggers are just calling your name, my friend.
Shelley,
If you had a show girl pullet along with the Silkie (splash) pullet that I promised myself that you would bring me at Chicken Stock, I promise I wouldnt yell too loudly if you made me take it home....
Good evening all,
Not a very productive day for me today, I guess I am just tired out from the busy weekend.
&
to Lyon Fuzz/Karen, both sets of twins are adorable.
Mom2, I hope your son is ok and that you will be feeling better soon too. Good luck with your hatch.
Brianna, congrats on you and your gang passing the hunter safety class.
Opa, I hope that you will be feeling better soon.
Shellyb, what are you going to do with so many chicks?
Opa, that is a lot of eggs
I think one of my wellie girls laid a double yolker today, it is quite a bit larger than what I have been getting from them.
Thank you Hillbilly Hen- I took my son for his cast today. He picked the color green. He is already restless. lol.
My husband is doing better- his arm is healing and he is feeling better now.
Now, if my duck eggs would just hatch, I would be okay...lol.
since a lot of them are first chicks from some of my breeds, I'm keeping them to grow out and see how they develop. I need to keep the forty-leven-million Cochin chicks to see which ones are going to be frizzled...I marked the eggs that came from the frizzled hens, but with so many eggs in the 'bator, I can't tell which chicks came from which eggs.
And even sadder...
36 standard eggs went into the hatcher this morning....most of those chicks will be kept as well.
And the most sad...
I set 48 more eggs in the 'bator this morning.
Michelle you are bringing chicks to chickenstock aren't you? I might just have to get a couple to a few more silkies from you, and maybe a different colored cochin, just maybe.
I have to take a picture of my poor ugly silkie Babygirl. She is molting hard and is SOOOOO... awful looking right now, she is beyond homely. Really, really ugly. I love her to death though she is a sweet but loud little chicken.
Does anyone have any D'uccle chicks? We only have one left of the ones shipped from Ideal. I think they just got to squished up from all those peanuts. I think they are such beautiful chickens. My husband thinks I should try to replace them, but I didn't want to take a chance ordering them and get dead or dieing chicks again. I will have room for 15 more bantams in the bantam coop easy if I wanted.

My daughter Rachel will be bringing bantams to Chickenstock. She has almost 30 right now and going to incubate some more in a couple weeks. She is keeping some, but most will be sold. She would be happy to help you fill your coop up

I have an extra D'Uccle roo around 6 weeks old that I would love to find a home for. I would even be willing to part with a pullet the same age if I could find him a good home.
That's the trouble with buying chicks at the Feed stores....now I have a few (6) too many roos for the amount of hens
I cannot bring myself to process any of them for the freezer. I may have to divide the coop and run into several areas so I don't have roosters fighting over the hens in a few months. It is too hard to get rid of extra roos this time of year. I have 5-6wk old MF D'Uccles and 2 are roos. 2-5 wk old porcelain or lavender D'Uccles (hard to tell till their feathers come in, they are at the awkard stage in feather developement) and at least 1 is a roo. I am really hoping for a pair with these two, as they are going to be gorgeous. Out of the 10 chicks that are 5 to 6 wks old I ended up with 4 definate roos and 1 questionable.
So, anyways, Briana, send me a e-mail if you are interested in one or 2 6 week old D'Uccles
They are really sweet and friendly little guys. Full of personality. They are hatchery quality, but adorable with big fluffy feathered feet. I can send pics if you want.
