Her bottom is constanly caked with poo. I have bathed her 3 times in three days. She spent two days in the coop. I crated her and gave her poulty drench last night. Today I put her out with the flock and started everyone on meds. She along with everyone else still has a wonderful appitete. Inhale treats, and are drinking as usual. There is no snotty noses. Color of combs is pretty dark pink. No one has hard bellies or full hard crops. No one is standing like a penguin. Some of them do have some loser stools than normal. No one has ever passed a wormAnd egg production has really dropped off. After we got those cochins in March they went into a hard molt then my 8 went into I think a light molt. Started losing a few feathers around their vents. Anyway out of 16 layers I averaged 6 to 9 eggs. The last few days were 4-8-3-10. I am so worried. My worst fear is what you said. They will never be better and all have to be killed.
I hope someone can give me some hope. Thank You

I'm so sorry to hear of your sick birds, I'm wishing them a speedy recovery. We had a sick Isa Brown. It took nearly 2 weeks but she is finally roosting again. She was lethargic, weak and had what felt like fluid in her chest. I thought for sure I was going to loose her. I just gave her supportive care and kept her quiet in the garage. She stopped laying and hasn't started up again but is definitely feeling better.

YakLady: its just not "A" coon its a litter of 3 *sigh. Im getting attached and no word from their first human mama on when she's picking them up. One of them now screams for me when I speak , even at a whisper to my other critters outside , she hears me. LOL

Word of advice, if you are going to process those babies, get them on auto bottle feeders in a stall. Or I shall bet you bottom dollar, you will never enjoy the meat.
Iluvcks: last year I posted just about what you are now with your sick chickens. I was about beat up from a 2 members on this forum/site. (thank gosh they dont post anymore LOL) Anyway..I was new to respiratory disease and didn't know what to do. Well i bought the electrolytes, antibiotics gave shots of tylan until one sweet soul, emailed me and said "Carol, you are going to have carriers and your whole flock will continue to get ill unless you put a stop to "trying" to help them. Allow the strong to survive and ride it out, what dies wasn't strong enough anyway and you do not want that in your flock. I listened and I haven't had one problem again. Its sad to think that most breeders NEVER treat a problem, they just allow nature to repair itself. But, it works. So my NOT so knowledgeable advice, ride it out dear. Your going to lose a few. But so be it, your other poultry will be healthier for it in my humble opinon.
Im so excited, I have been given 2 wonderful gifts 2 days in a row. The Sebastopol geese I purchased from Sue and she was so kind to bring them to Imlay 2 wks ago. Have laid 2 eggs. OMG are they huge. Almost the size of my hand. She told me the gander she sold me, she took his goslings to the Indiana swap this past wk end and got $75 each for them as they were splashes. I don't know I want to breed splash or not? Hope I get some more eggs in the next few days as breeding season is almost over. Daughter just bought a cabinet incubator GQF 1520 so should be able to get some great hatches. Cross fingers, Im so excited. I love my geese.
Bad news, my mature geese took Matuse and her duckling counter part down to the pond today unattended. Those lil stinkers were a bugger to catch. Had to use a fishing net as I didn't want to see feathers all about come morning. So guess Matuse and her duck will have to be locked up from now on. Gosh I hate doing that...but rather than find feathers everywhere and they became chick mcnuggets to some darn owl..
Lexus my service dog killed another opossum this evening. Might be the same one she got 2 wks ago? As it was gone come morning. This one isn't playing possum tho, I felt it heart, it was dead. I feel bad, but at least my unprotected hens/chickens are safe just one more day.

My ducks are really stinking up the garage, the duck pen/coop is not ready yet due to the bad weather, my garden is flooded, it's 40 degrees, the eggs I started in the incubator on Sunday are all clear, meaning my rooster is not up to the job...
Sorry, just had to vent a bit. Hope everyone stays dry and warm today, those with sick children and sick chickens have the illnesses clear up and those caring for animals they intend to eat (YakLady)or caring for orphaned predators (Ooopsey) find a way to part with the intended.

Yak Lady Those lambs are so cute. I would already be to attached. I'm way to soft. I don't know what to say other than stay stong and focused when its time to slaughter.
Carol thank for the advice. I have heard that old saying "only the strong survive" but I just can't do that. I have to TRY to make them better. I love these girls. They sit on my lap. Let me carry them like babies, and follow me around. They trust me. I would help my dog or cat, I have to do this. If they don't get better, I will be forced to let nature take its course. I do not want my girls dying a horriable drawn out death. I hope that I will be wise enough to see that the end is near and strong enough to help them go.

Good morning all! Well, I am feeling blessed this morning. I got a text last night at 11, but I had went to bed early and didn't hear it. I got it this morning at 6:30, from my neighbor, they spotted coyotes crossing the field into my yard last night!
They are back!!
So we had a baby geese, about 6 weeks old, in a couple of xpens in the back yard, those are just little portable dog fences, one was 2 foot high, one was 3, hooked together. We just finished a new pen, inside our main fence for them Sunday evening!! THANK GOODNESS because they would have been a quick snatch and run dinner!! Also THANK GOODNESS for my Maremma's who scared them right back out of the yard before they could mess with anything else, even though they are behind the goat fence. I think my Dh is starting to appreciate them now!!

The weather forecast for the rest of the week certainly isn't condusive to getting much accomplished outside. I do have a few things I can get done indoors so the week won't be a total wash and the customers job will still move forward.
I need to go let the chickens out before going to work so I guess I'd better get going.
