I try to make it a habit not to complain about Mother Nature unless I'd be perfectly okay accepting the exact opposite of what she's currently giving me. And since I'll take heat over cold any day, no complaints from me about these temps. Of course that also means I do a lot of complaining come winter.

I don't do anything special in the heat for the birds, but all of mine are truly free-range -- coop door opens to the great wide open and they're free to go where they please. I figure if they're not bright enough to seek some of the ample shade available around here they're on their own -- and I've never had one not do so. They always have water available so that's nothing new and with so many I have to refill the waterers at least daily anyway so the water is generally at least cool. They fare just fine.

Today is lockdown day for some of the turkey eggs in the 'bator. I'm still not entirely sure they made it through the power outage. I always think to candle them in the middle of the day and then forget when nighttime rolls around and I have the opportunity to do so. None are stinking or weeping so we'll just see what we get.

Been outside working again today... and so now I have an even better sunburn! Oh and the frame is pretty much up, just need a few minor adjustments. I was smart and built the coop/runs on very uneven ground!
Work came to a halt after my DD fell and cracked her head on the wall inside. She has a nice goose egg on her forehead and a few scratches. All in all it has been a good day, and I agree I hate to complain about the hot weather but it is pretty toasty out there!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Thank you to all the veteran's and current miltary servicemen and women who serve our country so I may have my freedom!

We are back from Fowlerville 's parade and service and have 2 loads of wash hanging on the line, another soon to follow

Kids are quickly eating so they can go in the kiddy pool that DH set up last night.

Enjoy the weather and I really hope we get some rain soon. Then I don't have to water the garden today

We did so much work this weekend. Today we decided to stay clean and cool.

We had a down pour come through around noon. Now I won't have to water anything.

Our turkey eggs went into lockdown on Friday and today we have our 1st pip. We are gonna be keeping a couple now to replace my Daisy but the rest are coming to chickenstock.

Anyone have Welsh Harlequins? I think I want some so I am looking close to home first. I also have an adult pair of American Buff geese that I could bring to chickenstock if anyone is interested and one gosling they hatched out last weekend. I also have some snowy call ducklings and 1 grey call ducklings I am bringing and I am thinking of bringing some hens, if anyone would be interested. I have some BLRW hens that I am replacing most are 12-18 months, their lacing could be better which is why I am replacing them. I also have some Welsummer hens too, since I got 6 new pullets this spring, they are about the same age. I will still be bring the chicks, eggs and bunnies too.

Good Morning everyone-
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend- I loved my four days off, but its back to work this morning. Im not ready. I need another four days.

Vicki,
What do you have that I could pair up with a mallard duckling that was probably hatched around May 15- I got it when the mother duck and siblings crossed a main road and this baby was left behind- as I was told by the person who gave it to me. It was rescued at the farm market and nobody was able to locate the mother duck and siblings. It has been alone since the 16th, and I feel really bad for it. Finally I can tell it is growing, thinks I am a monster, but still cries when I leave the room. By Chickenstock, it will be about a month old.

I got most of the garden planted yesterday and it doesn't look like I'll need to water them this week. Hopefully all of this rain this week will improve our chances of having great weather for June 12th.
