We are looking for one (possibly 2) trios (1 tom 2 hens)
of heritage turkeys (breeding trios) (Slates, Bourbons, Palms

These will be used for producing heritage turkeys for market,
not pets.

Hoping to pay for our freezer chickens, eggs and chicken feed (and turkey feed too)
by selling Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

If you have some drop me a pm here and we can talk
about prices.

Talking about the weather. I can remember snow flurries on the first day of Summer one June. I'm from Northwest Michigan.......It's 18 degrees here right now...but my Bantams are warm in their coop. We have two season up here.....(1) WINTER.....and (2) Preparing for WINTER....

I remember one of my uncle's corn fields (northern Antrim County)
freezing on July 4th.

Yup.

Frozen overnight between July 3 and July 4

We could not bale the hay we had down until AFTER the frost burned off.

Read "Farmer Boy" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The Wilders almost lost their corn crop right before the Fourth of July due to frost.

101 more days until April 1st!

Oh yeah, 6 eggs in the nesboxes this morning!

a few years ago, on April 26th, we got ten inches of snow. My dad was visiting from Chattanooga on his birthday and he and my daughter built a snowman.

Riverdale.....Where in Northern Antrim Co. did your Uncle live? I live in Antrim Co. too. I'm just over the line from Charlevoix Co. just South of East Jordan.

Hey Celia,

Now that i'm done with finals i can get on here. My girls (6) are out all the time i have the coop open. when it was really cold i had the heat lamp in the coop on but they still wouldn't go in it. Go figure. I don't think they like the snow. They have been huddling under my awning at the back of my house. So far no frost bite.

Keyt I work in Eaton Rapids at the hospital and I'll be in town on monday and I'm more then willing to stop by and check him out. I've been showing/breeding rabbits for about 18yrs now and have just about seen it all.(my website link is below in my signature) I don't know which vet you go to but Dr Holmberg is an excellent Vet and we've tried different things with my rabbits over the years. One time I even took my RIR rooster in because he was constipated LOL Dr Holmberg took a look at him...needless to say I got quite a few looks from the other people there when I was sitting in the waiting room with a full-grown roo on my lap!

My RIR roo was my baby...there will never be another one like him. His name was Buddy Love and he lived to be 14yrs old. Died of old age a couple years ago.
Anyways, It is very difficult to find a good vet for rabbits and Dr Holmberg has worked with me over the years and has become very good with them. He is also very reasonable with his prices or will work with you on payment arrangements. But if you'd like me to come take a look at him I would love to help as much as I can

shoot me a PM or give me a call

Jen..that would be so sweet of you, but we're leaving soon because this is my scalp injection day, then my daughter wants to go shopping. I would like you to see Gizmo because I think he's getting worse. Last night when I was feeding him some greens, he was going crazy over them but flopped to his side a few times while he was just sitting there eating! I don't know what to do. I still have him on the porch because I'm afraid of putting him in the "barn" where it's colder. I don't know if the cold would make him worse!

He's still his sweet, cuddly self and eats, drinks and poops normally. Like I said, I think it's something neurological.

On another note, everyone else is doing fine. I'm still frustrated over the ducks looking so dirty. We're trying to figure out how to have a water source so they can at least wash up...so they don't have to try to use the drinking water!

The chickens are also frustrating me. They all refuse to go outside most of the time. Soon a friend is coming to pick up some of the new ones we got because she wants to use them for her class. I really don't want to let any of them go but it's for a good cause!

Hope everyone has a good Monday.

OH YEAH, I'm now getting 3 eggs a day. I switched to a crumble layer and they seem to like it better. It's what I used to use with my RIR's and I think I'll go back to using it again. I don't care for that dusty crap.

Hey! Has anyone ever given thier chickens oranges or clementines? I've done a few different fruits for treats but never anything citrus like. I have some that have gone soft and thought about splitting them in half and giving them to the chickens. Any thoughts?
